Look into both the Grand Challenge and the Urban Challenge that DARPA puts on. That Scorpion would have been in the Grand Challenge as that was the off road set up. The Urban Challenge had a higher success ratio this year being on pavement and in a blocked off section of a city. This year's Urban challenge had a Lotus in it, now those guys knew how to make the most of what little space they had!

Mmmm...No. It's not the same thing-Autonomous is a heck of alot harder, especially for a large size vehicle like the Scorpion. It's the point of the DARPA Challenge in the first place. If they were allowed to be radio controlled more than half of them would finish every year.
