Default tattoo question

my fiance has a ton of tattoos. and since moving from minnesota to vegas, every once in a while they start acting funny. they get kinda raised up away from the skin without ink on it, like they do when they're brand new. the one doing it is like 3-4 yrs old so its not like theres any complication with aftercare or something. theyve only been doing it since she moved here to vegas 8 months ago.

Both Ryan and my tattoo's do that. I have noticed that it seems to happen more on humid days. They'll raise and sometimes maybe hurt a little. I think it may also be our bodies trying to reject the ink. I also notice that it's only with black ink on ours. Not sure how to stop it though...

Yeah, I'd suspect something with the change in climate her skin is rejecting the ink more. Maybe something with humidity levels or somthing, I'm sure Vegas is quite a bit dryer than MN.

I've got a couple, and they have never swelled up or ached at all since healing.

Mine did that one when I had an mri. They said it was common. The magnetic field reacts with the ink somehow.
In her case I have no Idea. Good luck

My entire back and both shoulders were done in Henderson, for those of you that don't know, a suburb of Las Vegas. The sun is the absolute curse to tats. The ink is at the melanin level in the skin, and will actually spread the with repeated exposure. I haven't had my shirt off outside in more than 20 years for that very reason. However, there is no reason I can think of other than sun exposure that may cause them to raise or itch or even hurt once they have healed. It sounds more like a question a dermatologist should be answering, it may be a reaction to the ink, although I do not understand why it didn't happen right away. At any rate get a professionals opinion, it may be nothing or it may need attention. I have never heard anyone complain of humidity making their tats do anything, or even anyone being able to tell they were there after they were completely healed. Again however, keep them covered, the sun in Las Vegas will peel the hide off of just about anything, after living there for 12 years I have seen the damage it can do to skin. I would have them examined the next time they puffed up.

I've had all my tatts done in either Wisconsin or Germany. Pretty much same climates as Minnesota. I did 1 1/2 years in Iraq and never had any issues with them. The only time I have seen this before was when somebody was allergic to the ink.

had a friend when i was in the navy back in '93, he got a tat done in Italy of his wife's name. he had some color added to it and then he got a mean allergic reaction from the ink. i had gotten one done too on the same day but mine was all black. he finally had to get it lazered off. mine is still the same, just alittle older. felt bad for him cause it was his first and he had waited a long time to get one.

your skin shrinks and expands, and prob. where the ink is the skin is non reactive. i don't know how to explain it.

Why does my tattoo raise up from time to time?
Some scarring occurs with every tattoo. Most of the time it's not really noticable. When the tattoo becomes irritated the scar will raise up for a bit. This can be caused by sun exposure or sunburn, slapping, scratching, rough clothing or even stress. Given time to calm down, the tattoo will lay flat again.
