Wow I was just hanging with Robby Gordon the day before they were scheduled to leave. My nefew even got to go for a ride in one of his Dakar rigs that they were dynoing that day. He was hoping to see the car he rode in on TV this year. Bummer.

With what some of the factories spend on their Dakar efforts, they could afford to have a helicopter gunship......... I mean camera platform follow their entry and provide cover fire............ I mean camera angles! |

Sorry for being a noob, but DAKAR is that race with the autonomous vehicles right, you know, the ones that drive themselves? And I thought they always did that down where they have the Baja races... If DAKAR is not what I asked above, could someone clue me into what it is? Thanks. |

Paris to Dakar is the longest off road race there is. about 4000 miles long,(used to be about 7000 miles when it really started in Paris now it actually starts in Portugal)starts in Lisbon ,goes thru spain ,down to Africa, goes thru the Sahara Desert and ends in Dakar ,Africa. Just about any vehicle is allowed from motorcycles to just about anything you can think of...one of the biggest names that we (Americans) know is probably Robbie Gordon who has went and done pretty good the last few years. Every year someone usually gets killed over there... they say Baja is nothing compared to this race...lol

I completely forgot that there still is the Taupo 1000! No match to Dakar and Baja, but still is interesting... I think there is something coming up on speed about it..

Give some Marines the day off to "escort" the racers, fully loaded of course. Call it recon/insertion/tactical/escort/ training ops or something like that with really big words so Bush thinks it sounds cool and goes for it. Simple minds are ,after all, easily amused. Throw a few Apaches in there too, Hellfires and all! And yes if this continues, .50 cals for all! I'd be happy to man a turret again! BRING IT, Al-Quaeda !!!
