| Interest in an actual "crawling" spot in Longmont?
I'm trying to see if there's enough interest for this... Last night I was talking with Gary, the owner of the Westy, Longmont, & Ft. Collins Hobbytown stores, about a crawling spot north of Denver. In the past he's talked about putting up a rock crawling course at his Longmont store, but never got it together, presumably from lack of interest. Well, as of last year the store took over the old BMX track by Union Reservoir on the east edge of town, and there's tons of extra space...plus some old, unused high banking and hills...plus a ton of concrete about to be broken up...plus a pile of rocks in the store's parking lot. It seems that Gary is somewhat interested in building something out of all this (even a scale-oriented course) if he feels there were enough interested people. Personally, I can't believe the shortage of sites for the scale series and feel weird having multiple events at the same places in a state this big, so I want more spots...as well as at least one place less than an hour away. So...here I am, putting out feelers. Who wants to have events up here?? POST UP!!! |

I'm always open for new locations. Our biggest issue is permission for being on someone land. This seems like it could be a possibility.

Permission certainly won't be an issue there. The whole track area is open to the public all the time, anyone can goof around there whenever there's not a race there. EDIT: Here is a map of the track. The R/C track only comprises the inner loop of the track you can see on the map. Tons of unused space, especially the NE corner of the old track. On a related note...I'm sure there's plenty of great spots to hold an event up at Big Elk Meadows, between Lyons and Estes Park. There's people playing paintball, shooting guns and 4-wheeling up there all the time, I'm sure some toy trucks will be no issue up there. I'll try and poke around up there a little this spring to find some good spots. Last edited by SLODRIVE; 04-27-2010 at 12:37 PM. Reason: added map |

I think it is a great idea. This is a lot closer to my house than the Westminister store. Let me know if you need help!!

I'm all for building it and was not implying access issues there. The other locations was what I was more talking about. Boulder County is really a PITA! They do not really have issue with people running, but events are the issue. I have ridden my motorcycle up those canyons and there are lots of really good locations, but not knowing for sure what is or is not Boulder County is the issue. I guess the biggest thing is to find a location, then find out what permission in needed and go from there with it. I'm in favor of finding new spots to hold events!

FWIW, Big Elk Meadows is national forest land. Should be no issues as far as events, I'm pretty sure. I have a bad shoulder that keeps me from hauling too many big rocks, but I'm more than happy to offer my 1-ton dually for transporting rocks. |

National forest is good. If you can get me some directions to the location your thinking of or maybe one of these weekends coming up we can get together and take a ride up there and look around.

Thanks to all who posted up so far. I talked to Gary again yesterday, and this looks like something that could really happen. So who else is interested? |
