| Jet Boat series/get togethers.
So stumbled upon RC jet boats a couple weeks ago. Needless to say it is a blast it will be a great summer activity. So I figure it would be fun to have a summer series/get together thread for all the activity and guys that are getting these. Right now I count 8 guys that are getting these. So if you have some set up technics you learn or want to get some guys together for this post up. Also post some fun locations near you. So what is a jet boat? Instead of having a outboard propeller it uses a impeller which uses water as a jet to move the boat, which means really shallow water, bouncing off rocks, and jumps. Well the boat I have is a NQD Tear Into 17" long... basically the size of a touring car. Mine has a 1/16th scale VXL system, full size cheap servo, custom water cooling coil and spektrum 2.4ghz reciever in the stock water proof box, also turnigy 2200mah 3 cell packs. I have read that a lot of people are using cheap electronics from hobbyking.com and having great success. They can be purchased here: http://www.raidentech.com/17wajetrcelr.html I figured even on the high end of the price spectrum it would be 200.00, considering what we spend on crawlers and other things is pretty cheap. I have gathered a fair amount of information from RCuniverse and crawlcanada, so if you guys have questions feel free to ask. Here are some photos of some guys set ups. And some video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lv05a...layer_embedded http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOdSA...layer_embedded If anyone has anything to add, by all means. |

I'm looking forward to these. I think ours should be here in the next few days. Still need to get the motor and esc though. Hopefully in a week or two I'll be ready! |

I have been to the river the last two days and just keep getting more adventurous with the boat. Needless to say this is the water version of crawling, but much faster, I will bring mine to the swap meet on saturday if anyone wants to check it out.

You won't be able to hang with a 1/4 scale boat were we are going to run! Get the NQD running and come hand with us Joe. FlapJack: If you were to make one it would cost a lot more then just buying the Tear Into, plus from all the reading I have done this is a well designed hull. Another point is if you were to buy say a Graupner Jet drive or mini Jet drive you would be looking at a minimum of 45.00. It would be a good upgrade for the Tear Into (and will actually be going in mine in the next couple days), but this still saves a lot of time and headache having a solid hull to throw everything into. I would personally just start with the NQD and go from there.

A couple things to consider for these boats: they need a little weight to keep the pump from losing prime. Mine ran an emaxx motor with a 3 cell and would hold a corner and accelerate out of jumps better than my friends boat that had a 380 size BL system. His was faster in a straight line but if it lost prime he had to come to a complete stop before going again. The added weight seemed to help going through the rapids too, you could use momentum to get up the obstacles. Water is going to get in these hulls no matter what you do. I'd suggest a water resistant ESC and servo and a balloon with servo extensions for the RX. I also drilled a small drain hole in one of the back corners of the hull above the water line so that when you pick it up you can drain the water I tried to keep mine as cheap as possible so if it got swept down the river I didn't worry about it. |

| Everywhere Dave! The don't need very much water to run since they don't have a prop and really anywhere that has water. Ran mine in a river four blocks from my house, we could run them at Lutz, the river by Red Rocks, basically where ever there is a inch or more of water. With enough power they are even pretty entertain in lakes, but not quiet the same challenge. |
