Interest in Rally?
 

So some of you may know I am obsessed with Rally cars and racing, since I can't afford the real thing right now I am engrossed in the R/C's.

With that said anyone interested in some Tarmac and Dirt rally racing?

For tarmac I know a few good places to do it, just outline the courses in chalk and use some cones.

For Dirt there might be a R/C rally course being constructed right now in the Lakewood area.:mrgreen: The course has nearly countless lines being built to really change it up and have multiple stages for the day.

As for classes I was thinking:

16/18th scale class, this would be for Traxxas (Rally, etc.), Associated (RC18R, etc.), Duratrax(vendetta, etc.) style vehicles

10th scale class, for Tamiya (DF03Ra, TA03RS, TA03R, TB02, TB01, FF02, TA05, TT01, MAo3, M05Ra), HPI (RS4 rally), Associated (TC3), Traxxas electric 4tec, Kyosho (DRX, Fazer EP rally), etc.

7th/8th scale class for short Course style vehicles and Thunder Tiger EB-4, Kyosho GP, etc.

The idea for courses is European style rally, a little bit of car chasing unless you can see it, but more importantly stagger starts and courses not much wider then 20 inches.
It should be fun and I found its actually a lot easier to drive this way then trying to spot the car from a distance. The courses will have a lot of technical corners so speed will not be an issue, it will be about car control.

So looking to see what kind of interest is in this.

Rally Track (HOON 470) Rules:

Mini Trophy Truck Class Rules:
The purpose of the class is to appear scale and stock to a HPI Mini Trophy Truck
-Must be a HPI Mini Trophy Truck with stock wheel base, including track width.
-Vehicle must appear to be in stock form, I.E. ride height, body and full cage.
-Wheels must be 1.9 inches in size.
-Tires must be within .1” of stock tire size (3.7”), no cut and shut tires.
- Tires are not to exceed the width of the body.
-All suspension and drivetrain modifications are allowed. Including adding dual shocks, locking diffs, etc.
-All power, motor, ESC and steering systems are allowed.


Open Rally Class Rules:
This class was created to mimic vehicles that would be seen in the WRC and Rally America events, This class is not for Dakar style SUVs or off road trucks.
-Must be 10th scale and use a 190mm or 200mm Sedan or hatch back car body.
-Tire must be inside of body wheel openings
- Tires must be existing 1.9 car rally tires (such as Associated, HPI, Duratrax, Academy or Tamiya).
-All power, motor, ESC and steering systems are allowed.
-2 wheel or 4 wheel drive is allowed.
-No more then 3/4" of belly clearance is allowed.


Dakar/truck class:
This class is for 10th -12th scale off road trucks and SUVs, such as (but not limited too) Cayenne(df01), Racing Lancer(df01), Tourag(cc01), F-150(ta02), Hummer.
-Motors are limited to 20 turns and up too 7.4 volts.
-Tires and wheels are limited to 1.9” wheels and a max tire size of 4.0”.
-Tires and wheels must be inside of the bodies existing wheel wells.
-Independent suspension is recommended, but not required.

My local club has just started a Rallycross class. The rules are simple:

190 - 200mm rally/touring or M chassis.
3000kv Hobbywing combos.
15mm min ground clearance.
Must resemble a rally car, albiet WRC, ARRC or state or club rally level. So, something that could be feisably rallied.

hmm i have a tamiya Df03Ra in the box maybe i should build it

I have a DF03, it's the plain purple WRX in the video (the one punting the crashed Alpine :mrgreen: ). They are a good handling unit.

I have had my DF03RA for a year and a half and love it, my favorite RC, I have been wanting to get something together for some time now.

You should they are a lot of fun to drive.

When are ya wantin to get it started? Any locations picked out?

Building a track now, it will probably be another two weeks before it is done.

I'll post up some pictures when it is getting closer to done.

Right now it is 3 linked corners the third being a L2 to a straight with a long R5, after that you can take the "crest" or take a tight R4 to L3 to the landing for the "crest" to a 10 foot straight to a R3 to L hairpin, there is about 30 feet to link it all together, plus there will be a few variations/turn offs to the main track along with a few jumps, a bridge, pit area and what not. The section of track that is done, is drivable, but Im still smoothing it out and removing some vegetation.

Tomorrow I am taking the weed wacker out to clear a lot of grass out of the area.

So I figured we start big and do the first event at this Lakewood/Morrison location, then do a Tarmac rally and go from there.

If anyone would like to come out and dig they are more then welcome, there will also be a lot of scale items on course to go with the scale theme of the events."thumbsup"

Where's the digging to be done and when?

I was out there on sunday for 3 and half hours, Im still tired from that.:ror: Also with Rocas Rojo coming up this weekend I will not have much time to go out there in the next couple of days.

Next week I will get back on track though. If you guys want to check it out, its at C470 and Morrison, on the south west corner down by the creek.

Park across Morrison road from the conoco in the small dirt lot, walk east past the really big BMX dirt jumps and you will see it in the little valley down there.

If anyone would like to do some grooming that would be great.

Im trying to smooth out all the little bumps, remove some vegetation and get the place pretty hard packed.

I might have some time thursday sometime. If anyone wants to meet up there, PM me for my number.
