After you've opened a thread it's located right hand upper part, below the bar you describe....plus above that in the cp bar

as it was explained to me...
the search feature is removed at times of heavy site traffic to help reduce the bandwidth munching effects.

try your searches again later when its not peak times.

Thats all good that you guys support those that support you, but think about it like this;
Every time someone posts a thread asking a question thats been answered a million times before, you all harass him and tell him to SEARCH.
Now the number of those threads will increase by thousands.

word.

the only alternative is that you pay at the door to read all posts. it becomes more of a club than a public forum,

Exactly,

Over on P4x4, They gave star holding members a time of 30 seconds between posts and those that don't hold a star had to wait 300 seconds between posts. This would be better than nothing.
I have been been a member here for several years now, and if you read through all the threads I have started, you will realize that there are no stupid ones. For one simple reason, I use the SEARCH feature.

Guys, it will be fixed! Look around a bit before getting all excited, there are 3 threads right on top of each other talking about this same exact thing, if you took a second to look you would see this:

We try to turn it on during the daytime and just turn it off during peak usage, but sometimes it has to stay off.

I know this is a pain in the ass, but we are working on a more long term solution.

i dont know how this site operates but do know that bandwidth is not cheap,
and with all the pages and pages of pics here bandwidth can be munched up quite quickly.

do they own their own server blade and deal with collocation or are they simply renting from a host ?

with over 20,000 members, thats a ton of traffic.

i would trade 40 of my usable PM's for a search.

Roger that!

By my response I'm not advocating that everything be free, the best things in life are NOT free, liberty being one of those things. But this is a hobby to most of us. And hobbies cost money. Let's be honest, it's the generosity of this hobby that keeps most of us in it. I have given many of parts away at events( shooting events) to keep people going, and I am sure many of you all have done the same at crawler events. Thats what we do for one another. Maybe the vendors should carry the burden. They are making money here...from us. We support them, they support the site. Just my two cents...

Believe me, vendors do their part in supporting the site, that blue star costs good money, and so does advertising! Not to mention giveaways, donations, and sales.

Well upon trying to locate how to support the site, without the search feature, I was unsuccessful. Does anyone want to point me in that direction...before I suck up too much bandwidth posting to try and find it? Thanks.....:-P

in the last month we've done over 4,000,000 page views, and had over 60,000 absolute unique visitors. ;)
