New Crawler Course / RC ORV Park forum? Any Interest?

I decided to start a new thread on this because there seems to be an interest but it's all been in threads that've taken a different direction from the original title. So I gave it a title that might catch others attention as to what it's about.

There are a lot of indoor & outdoor courses out there & a lot of people building stuff in there back yard. I use the term "RC ORV Park" because while I have some great comp crawling terrain, my interest are scale, bridges, buildings, scale 4WD roads. But there are some great comp course out there that started with a few guys rolling rocks around in their backyard & they are now experimenting with different methods of molding & creating terrain where it didn't exist before.

Here are some things that are out there now:

Awsome indoor 6000 sq. ft. RC tank battlefield in Danville, VA that has been opened to trucks at times:

Another thread trying to get a forum accomplished (see several links to backyard courses)

All scaled out has put a ton of work into his course:

Backyard Courses and ORV parks are popping up everywhere in the recent months and all spread throughout the forum. It would be a great idea to start a sub-forum dedicated to these builds. I think the people who are looking to build a park will find a sub-forum extremely helpful when getting into a project or looking for new ideas/help/info/tricks.

This sounds like a great Idea. Would be nice to have one area just for the courses we build even though mine is kinda crappy compared to most of these guys.

I think a new forum here would be great. I've been building my backyard course since 2008. It has 2.2 comp area and I have tons of scale type terain all over my property. I need a few of those custom bridges DRW has..(-8
Here's my crawl area

My scale terrain

and the indoor spot I comp at twice a week.

It would cool to have a spot where we can get ideas and such for our own parks.

this is a good idea. i started a thread for mine (nothing compared so some others out there) but it would be nice to have a forum so i can quickly look at others for idea.

I live on 40 acres at the base of a mountain, no need for making my own courses :flipoff:

Although it be cool to look through sections and see what people come up with, i've followed a few, but...

a subforum would be GREAT...different ideas could be shared, and the posts/pics all easy to browse/find...

here's mine:

Thanks for all the input. I was looking in the general area & a lot of the courses posted are within that last year or so. It seems like the interest or at least interest in posting is increasing. I also saw a lot of people asking questions about molding and pre-forming terrain & making this type of terrain outdoor proof. There's a lot to be learned from other hobbies too that can be incorporated into backyard courses, lighting, ponds, waterfalls, scale buildings, etc.

I would really like to build a pond & add a 1/10 scale bush plane with floats. There is a RTF supper cub that has 48" wing span & option floats. Kind of a backwoods wilderness theme.

I just think there is a lot of potential for growth in this area of the hobby & it's realtivly unttaped at the moment.

I've got 57 acres at the base of a mountain so I have a lot of terrain too. But keeping it up and scale looking has been a challenge. All my property is heavily wooded so driving through 10' long scale oak leaves doesn't fit my scale interest. The best thing I've purchased is an industrial leaf blower.

But most of my crawling is right around the house where I have really "groomed" the terrain & added signs & bridges. I use the rest of the property for 1:1 crawling in my FJ40.

I simply started with a "hey, that looks like a cool spot to crawl" idea and 6 months later - I have invested more than 60hrs on the course and it has expanded 3 fold.... Now, the blackberry bushes are fighting back due to lack of driving time.

I would love to see other ideas that I could incorporate into my course... Love the idea of a sub forum..!

That would be a cool forum. I have a little course in the backyard myself.

Thanks for starting this thread DRW. I've been trying to post in here the past few days, Tapatalk wasn't cooperating with me.

Anyway, like I said in the other thread, I think it'd be really great, it'd give us a place to share ideas and bounce ideas off each other without being drown out in general chit chat. I mean c'mon, we have a non-crawler and shortcourse forum but we can't get a crawler related thread...on rcCRAWLER.com!?!?! :flipoff:

I am just getting ready to take some pics/vids of my course. This would be a wonderful section.

A forum for courses would be great. Just to let everyone get some inspiration quickly, and to be able to show your work to people yhat want to see it.
I only have a tiny backyard, but the course is great nonetheless.
so i vote yae!

I think the people have spoken. I must admit though, I am interested in Pro and Sport rigs, but I like seeing what people come up with for anything from scale to pro, indoors and out.

That's what I'm talkin' bout. Plus, there is some overlap. There's no reason why you can't have some scale features in in a comp course or comp terrain in a scale course.

I sent a message to admin but you know what they say about the squeaky wheel...

crawlinnTN 08-01-2011 02:19 PM

i say awesoem! cause im building one, but more like a TTC course

Guillotine Graphics 08-01-2011 06:20 PM

We cast our vote for a home rc course and Orv park sub-forum. It's another side of this great hobby that is fun to see what other people are doing with the space they can work with and what materials are used "thumbsup"

Exactly, they always over lap. I wouldn't mind seeing more TTC style things for Pro rigs. I know that people prefer not to because their Pro rigs only see rock and are comp'ed only, but I like seeing what my MOA can do on hill climbs, and so on. :ror:

Nothing wrong with scale doing some comp crawling either.
