Default Google Custom Search engine added to RCC

I added Google Custom Search engine to RCCrawler. Check it out in the upper right hand corner of the forum.

Let me know if you have any issues with it.

I love it! The images tab is sweet. Did 3 quick searches and each worked the first time.

Nice.

I'd prefer it open in a new tab, though.

I do to but I'm worried that a browser popup blocker would prevent the results page or the destination page from being seen. And if the user is not computer savvy then they may not figure out how to get it to work.

You guys like the original location of the search block or where it is now?

I was just gonna ask if you're the one moving it around or if something is goofy. I'd say where it is now, under my name and the quick links. It was odd being above my name under the ad banner up there. Either one is better than across the top, that was annoying.

What I don't like is how it's an extra second to load, so as I'm making my way to click a page number or something, it loads, and miss the thing I'm clicking. Maybe I'm too fast, or too slow. Otherwise, kinda cool.

The Google search bar in your Firefox browser searches the Internet. The Google Custom Search on RCC searches only RCC. Big difference.

One of the main benefits of the RCC Google Custom Search is you can search 1 and 2 letter names like VP or DS. You cannot do that with the Vbulletin built in search.

Yes you can not do 2 word searches via VBB but you can do the same thing just using google. The only thing the hack to the forum does is add rccrawler in front of any search string. If you want to search via username and any other added search criteria you wanna use the VBB for that.

Don't get me wrong its not bad to have the google search but IMO its more fitting at the bottom so it doesn't clutter the top of the page along with the other stuff thats added with the search window.

I'm glad we agree. How many RCC members do you think know how to do a site search in Google? eg. "wraith site:rccrawler.com" Not to many.

This isn't just another vb.org forum hack, it's the paid google enterprise search which has all kinds of features I have yet to enable.

It won't be for everyone, but I know that it will be better for the RCC community as a whole.

Exactly. No one really needs to now with the Google search.

I just added a couple refinements. Do a search on 'wraith' then on the search results page you can select the refinement you want to use like 1.9, 2.2, scale or comp. Pretty cool I think.
