Can we separate the competition sections?

Competition is becoming a huge part of the scale crawler scene. The RC4WD scale challenge series alone has 4 comp threads running on the first page of the comp section.

the Pro/Mod, Sport, and Super Competitions are making a grass roots comeback IMO. It would help us in our comeback if the two sections had dedicated main comp threads on the site. G6's got their own thread and it has helped them grow with the extra attention.

This could help both section of the hobby grow and help a little with confusion for new competitors.

Just an idea! I'd love to hear what others think about this too.

Re: Can we separate the competition sections?

From the perspective of a comp thread reader, it would be nice to be able to zero-in on the one(s) of interest. Are there comps that run Pro/Mod and Supers at the same event or are they usually separate? That's the only drawback that I can see, OPs would need to post and maintain threads for each class included in their comp.

Another thought for fixing up the Comp forum - fix the second stickied thread, "Club Listings, Find your local club here!". It's not been updated in 5 years, the giant link for how to get recognized is dead and the calendar is empty. If all this information is irrelevant or outdated, the thread should just be removed all together.

Re: Can we separate the competition sections?

Not a lot of clubs run Supers, but those that do usually run them at the same event as the Mods and/or Sporties.

Updating the club list with relevant info is a great idea, but that would need a dedicated RCC member or club presidents to keep it updated. Definitely doable if those involved took the initiative.

There used to be a long list of criteria to be met to be a sanctioned club, but I think JRH quashed that last year. And really, what does "sanctioned" mean anymore?

Re: Can we separate the competition sections?

Pro/mod and Super comps are close enough to being the same. Depending on size of the event they are run on the same day. Especially our local ones.

My thought is based on separating competitions based on rule sets being run.

Comp thread for USRCCA rules, and a separate thread for SORCA rules.

Re: Can we separate the competition sections?

sporty comp. 2.2 modified comp. and superclass comp. all put in their own section like the scaler section? do it! please for the love of comp gods!

its only fair! :flipoff:

scale guys have had their own section for how long?

and superclass has had its own too. :1.9 and unlimited included!:

but it should be moved out of the rig specific section. and into a new (not created yet) comp section!

including sticky for rules in each class.

sticky for regular comp locations.

and a gtg section maybe?

or we could create a general comp talk section as well and gtg's can be posted there.

cant get squat info about comps in Michigan unless I go on basebook.. or if farmer is still comp crawling I don't know where.

I drive 3 hours each way from my house to go race 3-6 times out of the year. id drive 6 hrs one way to comp on a weekend if I could.

comp is not dead. just give it a little fertilizer to grow again. "thumbsup"

Re: Can we separate the competition sections?

I appreciate you enthusiasm! This is some good input. right now all I'm asking for is to separate the scale comp events and the crawling comp events. IE

One thread for SORCCA Comps including Tough Truck, RC4WD scale series, Scale GTG's
Another thread for any event with USRCCA classes 2.2s, 2.2mod/pro, Super, and even 1.9

It's not even all that important to migrate the old comps to the new sections. Just a creation of a separate thread visible from the main forum page.

I feel once this is established we can get to a more conducive organization of the build threads and manufacture specific threads.

Has anyone asked a mod if they can do what we're asking?

We cannot. That's an admin thing.

We can't change the site. And I haven't been able to get a comp specific subforum made for any classes. But I do agree on needing some additional organization to get comps back in order.

My worker pointed out that Boss + Owner = Bowner. It's probably better the owners aren't bossing things around too :D

Still an Admin thing, but as a forum admin the task of keeping things organize was daunting. To few forums and things clutter, to many and it fragments the community, people become isolated to one or two forums and the discussions fell off.

One of the ways I was able to avoid the negatives but still keep things organized was to add custom post icon.

Say for example I wanted to let people post about a specific event. I would add a "logo" for that event to the list of post icons available. When the OP entered the Title the post icon could be selected. The readers of the forum would have a visual reference to the subject matter and not need to rely on the title.

For those not familiar with the post icons, their are the images seen directly to the left of the thread title when viewing the forum. Default is no post icon, and vbulleton will set the piece of paper. If you look at this forum you can see one of the stickies has a thumbs up post icon.

This is similar to an idea I have - could we just encourage people to tag their event titles with included classes?
For example the post
"Scrcc 2015-16 season finale - johnson city"
would be
"Scrcc 2015-16 season finale - johnson city #2.2P#2.2S"

Or is this expecting too much from OPs?

I can tell you from experience that's not going to happen. In a vast majority of the posts my Mods would end up adding the icon.

Re: Can we separate the competition sections?

I'm not sure either of those ideas would work. When I post comps for my club they are labeled quite descriptively: What it is, Where, and When. Readers usually know, but in my mind i would just make it easier to separate the two sections, that way we're not trampling all over each other. Scale vs. Comp.

They did it for G6, and now U4, why not separate Scale and Comp?

Re: Can we separate the competition sections?

right!!!!!!!! I wanna see changes but I don't think it will happen.

there is and are still hardcore comp guys like myself stil lurking about and posting build threads. but there are few.

I wish scale would die off a little in my area...
