| UTRCRC Rock Crawling Competition #3 Results (NOW WITH PICS)
UTRCRC Rumble on the Rocks 3 Results. July 17th 2004 Course 1 (The Waterfall): 1 Martha Stewart/Jason Craig – 6 (6 gate marker penalties) 2 The Furless Yeti/Brett Thorne – 7 (7 gate marker penalties) 3 The Dust Guppy/Matt Davis - 16 (penalties: 1 reverse, 6 rollover, 4 gate marker, 1 by-pass(5pts.)) 4 Decko/Dean Farrington – 18 (penalties: 5 rollover, 2 reposition, 6 gate marker, 1 by-pass) 5 El Capitan/Andy Heyd – 20 (penalties: 2 rollover, 1 reposition, 7 gate marker, 2 by-pass) 6 Sleepless/Jason Kallas – 29 (penalties: 7 rollover, 2 reposition, 5 gate marker, 3 by-pass) 7 Grinder/Troy Benton – 33 (penalties: 1 rollover, 1 reposition, 11 gate marker, 4 by-pass) 8 The Duke/Chris Ladd – 37 (penalties: 1 reverse, 2 reposition, 14 gate marker, 4 by-pass) 9 Luke Duke/Steven Wykoff – 43 (penalties: 1 reverse, 4 rollover, 1 reposition, 10 gate marker, 5 by-pass, 2 time penalty) 10 Necko/Nic Farrington – 51 (penalties: 5 reverse, 1 rollover, 3 reposition, 17 gate marker, 4 by-pass, 1(+1+1) time penalty) 11 Just-a-MAXX/Scott Okelberry – 57 (penalties: 5 reverse, 6 rollover, 1 reposition, 6 gate marker, 7 by-pass. 1(+1+1) time penalty) Oh boy… Course 1 was a tough one. The key to this course turned out to be a long wheelbase and grippy tires. At about a 45deg up-hill pitch this course just ate up the crawlers with short wheelbases and lower traction tires. Combine the steep, constant climb, with the fact that the course was set-up on a river run-off with VERY slick and polished rocks, made The Waterfall an extreme challenge. Course 2 (The Suicide Razor): 1 Martha Stewart/Jason Craig – 8 (penalties: 2 rollover, 3 reposition, 3 gate marker) 1 The Dust Guppy/Matt Davis - 8 (penalties: 4 rollover, 4 gate marker) 3 The Furless Yeti/Brett Thorne – 9 (penalties: 2 rollover, 7 gate marker) 4 Decko/Dean Farrington – 14 (penalties: 4 rollover, 3 reposition, 7 gate marker) 5 El Capitan/Andy Heyd – 16 (penalties: 7 rollover, 1 reposition, 3 gate marker, 1 by-pass) 6 Necko/Nic Farrington – 17 (penalties: 1 reverse, 3 rollover, 4 reposition, 4 gate marker, 1 by-pass) 7 Sleepless/Jason Kallas – 26 (penalties: 2 reverse, 4 rollover, 7 reposition, 8 gate marker, 1 by-pass) 8 Luke Duke/Steven Wykoff – 27 (penalties: 1 reverse, 5 rollover, 5 reposition, 3 by-pass, 1 time penalty) 9 The Duke/Chris Ladd – 28 (penalties: 1 reverse, 9 rollover, 2 reposition, 1 gate marker, 3 by-pass) Scott Okelberry and Troy Benton had to leave early so we had no course 2 score for them. Course 2, The Suicide Razor, had it’s own challenges that had to be overcome. The course didn’t really favor a particular wheelbase or any special tire. But with combination of off-camber sections, numerous wheel-sucker holes and precarious cliff edges (scale cliffs of course), made this course a ”drivers course”. Although we soon learned that a lower center of gravity (CG), wider tires and wider tracks did let you drive a little sloppier. Crawlers with these configurations helped them to better to hang on to the off-camber faces and straddle those wicked wheel-suckers. Those with higher CGs, narrower tracks and narrower tire widths suffered a bit on The Suicide Razor. Overall for the day : 1 Martha Stewart/Jason Craig – 14 2 The Furless Yeti/Brett Thorne – 16 3 The Dust Guppy/Matt Davis - 24 4 Decko/Dean Farrington – 32 5 El Capitan/Andy Heyd – 36 6 Sleepless/Jason Kallas – 55 7 The Duke/Chris Ladd – 55 8 Necko/Nic Farrington – 68 9 Luke Duke/Steven Wykoff – 70 The UTRCRC Rumble in the Rocks 3 was our biggest turn out yet with 11 crawlers competing (and the hottest). We did have a couple more crawlers show up but they chose to support us instead of compete, which is great too, maybe next time. We had a great time and really appreciate everyone that showed up to compete and support this event. Also we want to give a special Thank you to Steven Wykroff, Chris Ladd and Andy Heyd for foregoing sleep and making the trek from Colorado. It was great to meet Steve and see Andy and Chris again. It wouldn’t have been the same with out you guys. Congratulation to Jason Craig for winning the top spot. Although he was using for the first time, that cheater radio, the Futaba 3pj Super. We all could see the great advantage you can have with 4 wheel independent steering. Friendly complaints were numerous that using that radio was cheating. Of course when we all get one it won’t be cheating, it will be the best thing ever. It’s funny how that works. Pictures will be up soon. We also shot a lot of video for the upcoming UTRCRC DVD. Our next event is set for August 21 st. We would love for you all to come and crawl in Utah. -PF "BITCHES " |

BTW... Chris has the 14min/102.7 MB Colorado .wmv video on disc.... make sure you get a copy from him. Brett did a great job putting together both of our footage. I'd forgotten how freaking cool the Diggler is, then I watched the video. | |

Man, what a tough day. The Duke received a severe asswhoppin by the Utah boys for sure. Congrats to them on the courses and their drivin skills. I loved being out there, especially with a/c in the RV. I knew The Duke was not set up for your courses just from the pictures of ROTR 2 so I prepared my ego for some humiliation, 8 hours of drivin is plenty of time for that. Look for some changes to The Duke, that I learned from you guys, before the August event . I'll be lookin for some payback BITCHES! |

why would the 3PK be a cheater radio? because you can control your 4ws seperately? if that's the only reason why, then my traxxas controller would be cheating then too |
