The reason being was we set out to make an easier more relaxed first course. We knew we would have a few first-time competitors, so we thought we would make this course like a walk in the park. Needless to say, it didnt turn out that way. The course had a combination of obstacles; some favored short wheelbases, some favored the long ones. Obstacles that looked easy turned out to be a challenge for many crawlers. There were quite a few off-camber sections and some real frame twisters. The more patient drivers prevailed on Sunday in the Park; with a combination of a steady throttle finger, watchful eye and patients in finding that perfect line. Maybe we should have called it Sunday in the Park FROM HELL. Course 2 (Road to Damnation): 1 The Dust Guppy v2/Matt Davis 5 (penalties: 1 reverse, 1 reposition, 3 gate marker) 2 Martha Stewart v2/Jason Craig 6 (penalties: 3 reverse, 2 reposition, 2 gate marker) 3 The Furless Yeti v2/Brett Thorne 8 (penalties: 1 reverse, 2 reposition, 1 by-pass) 4 Grinder/Troy Benton 10 (penalties: 4 rollover, 1 reposition, 5 gate marker) 5 Super Duke/Chris Ladd 16 (penalties: 3 reverse, 1 rollover, 3 reposition, 3 gate marker, 1 by-pass, 1 time penalty) 6 Sleepless/Jason Kallas 19 (penalties: 2 reverse, 2 rollover, 6 reposition, 4 gate marker, 1 by-pass) 7 Lincolin/Rory Paster 21 (penalties: 2 reverse, 4 rollover, 4 reposition, 6 gate marker, 1 by-pass) 8 Necko/Nic Farrington 23 (penalties: 5 reverse, 3 rollover, 3 reposition, 7 gate marker, 1 by-pass) 9 ICP/Mike Thomson 29 (penalties: 7 reverse, 5 reposition, 7 gate marker, 2 by-pass) 10 1984/Tim Dodd 32 (penalties: 5 reverse, 5 rollover, 1 reposition, 4 gate marker, 3 by-pass, 2 time penalty) 11 Decko/Dean Farrington 38 (penalties: 4 reverse, 5 rollover, 6 reposition, 8 gate marker, 3 by-pass) 12 C-Maxx/Aaron Morgan 39(DNF) (penalties: 4 reverse, 3 rollover, 5 reposition, 5 gate marker, 2 by-pass, DNF) 9 Ty Goed 39(DNF) (penalties: 1 reverse, 10 rollover, 3 reposition, 3 gate marker, 2 by-pass, DNF) 9 Bushmaster/Tim Dodd 39(DNF) (penalties: 1 reverse, 1 reposition, 3 gate marker, 1 by-pass, DNF) Colt Giles, Carl Egbert, Collin Dodd, Chris P, Tase Thompson, Bret Elwood, and Jeffy Poo had to leave early or chose not to compete or broke on course 1 so we had no course 2 score for them. Course 2, Road to Damnation. In he past we (the course builders) have heard a few friendly complaints/verbal jabs that we build our courses so we, ourselves will do well in the competition, insomuch catering all the pervious courses to our strengths. So the second course we decided to hand the task of designing the second course to all the rest of the competitors. So we handed the chalk and gate markers to a few of the guys and said get to it. About 10 of the guys, some veterans, some green to crawling, started marking out course 2. We sat back and kept out mouths shut and let them build. It was fun to watch them plan, bicker, layout, complain, disagree, and finally agree on all kinds of lines and obstacles. Within 15-20 minutes the Road to Damnation was complete. Boy did it live up to its name. There were lines and obstacles that we have never thought possible. Even before the unfortunate first competitor had completed the first few gates, we all new we were in for on of the most challenging course ever. Sections of the course quickly received names like: The Pit, Bitch Chute, and The Impossible Falls. Only 3 competitors made it through the course with out taking a gate by-pass penalty. We even had to temporarily modify our gate by-pass rule so a few guys could finish the course. I think it worked out great to have all the crawlers come together and layout a course. It was an extremely hard course and a very fun one. Overall for the day : 1 The Furless Yeti v2/Brett Thorne 15 1 Martha Stewart v2/Jason Craig 15 3 The Dust Guppy v2/Matt Davis - 19 4 Grinder/Troy Benton 20 5 Super Duke/Chris Ladd 25 6 Sleepless/Jason Kallas 29 7 Lincolin/Rory Pestor 34 8 necko/Nic Farrington - 38 8 1984/Tim Dodd 38 10 ICP/Mike Thomson 46 11 Decko/Dean Farrington 52 12 Bushmaster/Tim Dodd 62 13 Ty Goed 64 14 C-Maxx/Aaron Morgan 46 The UTRCRC Rumble in the Rocks 4 was again our biggest turn out yet with 21 crawlers competing (WOW!!! Thats 10 more crawler than R.I.T.R. 3). We had a great time and really appreciate everyone that showed up to compete and support this event. Also we want to give a special Thank you to those that traveled for out of state; Chris Ladd again making the trek from Colorado. Ty Goed and his Father who also drove from Colorado. And Tim Dodd and his son Collin for coming up from Mesquite, Nevada. Congratulation to Brett Thorne and Jason Craig for tying for the top honors. Pictures will be up soon. We also shot a lot of video for the upcoming UTRCRC DVD. Our next event is set for September 25th. THE FIRST ANNUAL MOAB CRAWL-OFF. We would love for you all to come and crawl in Utah. Make your camp-site and hotel reservations early. -PF |

Well another great competition and the largest one at that! I want to thank all the guys that traveled from out of state to participate. (oh a rhyme :P ) As well as all the other competitors that showed up. I wish that we had more time to shoot the bull and get to know all of you more. I love to hear about the stories of how each of us got into the sport and to hear all the theories and ideas you have all come up with. Anyway it turned out really well. I was nervous when I saw all the trucks coming out of the woodwork for the group photo. They just kept coming and coming. Overall it was our most successful meet to date and I hope that it just continues to get more and more popular. We should have some images up soon and I hope to have a quick vid. teaser soon as well. Thanks again! Kaetwo |
