Looks like it's going to be a small group this weekend...

'04 Rubicon 06-02-2008 09:42 AM

No small group. I just had not updated the attendee list all weekend. Looks like a good turnout with 15 people. If everyone shows up it'll be the largest one so far.
Let's just hope the weather plays nice. Looks like it's going to be a scorcher - 96 degrees - http://www.weather.com/weather/tenda...nav_undeclared.

swell searcher 06-02-2008 10:06 AM

sweet... i'm not complaining... with the larger turnout, i say we still run the 3rd course together. i had a blast watching everyone at the last comp.

remember guys, this event will be officially timed... tick tock... tick tock...

Robb 06-02-2008 10:11 AM

Is someone going to pre-run the course (with a non-comp rig of course and with anyone/everyone watching) to determine practical time allowed? Or are with just going with a generic time like 5 minutes?

And WOW that list grew quick!! Should be a nice showing!"thumbsup"

Yes we will. We must make sure we pick the right time limit. I do not want to discourage those that may go a bit slower than others, and force them to make bad decisions and then not finish. I know we've been planning on this for the past couple events but I still want to make sure we do it right. I personally like not having a time limit, but if we want to run like the bigger events, they're all timed. It's a bit of a shock going from untimed to timed events so as long as we design the courses correctly for 5 minutes, or choose the proper time, we should be good.

like mark said, we have done this for 2 events now (timed courses but not penalizing) and working out the bugs. it does help that we run test rigs (non competing rigs) thru the course and we have gone down from 10 gates to 7-8 gates. i like the time events and not because the national events are timed but but because it makes you think more of choosing the right line and react quicker. plus it makes the day go by quicker especially for people like me who drives 1-2 hours to compete. i like the idea of finishing around 2 and can free crawl afterwards which means more drive time. finishing around 4 or 5 and than driving home sucks.

mark, the customary 730ish setup time...

Yep. I'll be there at 7:30ish and anyone who wants to come between 7:30 and 8:00 to help with setting up the courses, please do. I'm really hoping the water level is down enough so that we can finally set something up over on the backside where the flatter terrain is. We had a nice course set up during practices but have yet to run it during a comp due to the water level.

I'll be posting up the running order and groups this Friday or Saturday. Looks like we'll have enough for three groups if everyone shows. Or we can do two groups of eight or so and then run the third course altogether. It may take a little longer this way but I also liked watching everyone else drive the third course the last event. What do the rest of you guys think? Three groups or two?

Chargerguy 06-03-2008 01:54 PM

Since it will be timed I vote 2 groups and all on the last course"thumbsup"

swell searcher 06-04-2008 07:47 AM

2 groups sounds good with the finals in a single group...

'04 Rubicon 06-05-2008 03:26 PM

Ok guys. If you haven't registered, do so now before tomorrow night. I will be generating the groups and running order and you do not want to go first by not registering. Looks like we will go with two groups and run the last course all together since everyone seemed to like that the last comp.

Also, this is the last comp before we submit the 1st and 2nd place positions to Jason for the USRCCA nationals. After this event, I will be giving the names of the top 2 spots and an invite to the nats will be sent out by Jason.

Holy Sunshine! 103 degrees  - http://www.weather.com/weather/wxdet...2&from=weekend. Looks like that's going to break a 109 year old record of 99 degrees set back in 1899. We did ask for no more rain but come on!

Please make sure to bring plenty of water guys. I'll have my cooler and extra bottles just in case. Hopefully it'll be a little cooler down by the creek.

Anybody been down there lately? I haven't been since the last comp there. I wonder how high the water is or if there is any undergrowth?
