They weren't too happy about the situation. You'd think that this year all of that would be looked and and resolved instead of already talking about swamping vehicles. Tim's 3" deep idea sounds good. If you want water on the courses, put it in an area where you can control the depth. We've done this several times at the scale comps we've had at Pointes West and had no issues. When you have people traveling thousands of miles to drive toy cars, they should be able to drive the courses and be having fun while doing so. | |

Jason last year some of the courses were right next to and within the stream. In the morning it was fine, but by afternoon the water level had risen probably 5 feet. Some of the lines the guys took in the morning were under a couple feet of water by the afternoon. Like I said in my other post you have to know that in Montana in the springtime with 6 feet of snow uphill that the water level is going to rise every afternoon. |

I would like to come this year but I have a scale tuber and from what I understand form the rules they are not allowed. The local crew I run scale with considers my rig scale, under the "tube frame rail chassis" part of the rules. I can understand how a rig like mine has some advantages over a scale "Trail Truck" styled rigs. And that may make some people rule "tubers" out of scale comp. And I also understand that making a separate class would be very complicated, so I'm not asking for that. However there are some adjustments that can be made to the rules for deduction points and so on. I think it could bring some very interesting rigs out to scale Nats this year like mine or Robbob's Fun buggy and other outstanding tuber builds out there. Robbob's Funbuggy Fun Buggy just wanted to throw this out there for consideration when making the rules for 09. BTW I'm a big fan of MUD and WATER. I think you guys will do a fine job. Yeah There may have been some issues last year, but I ran every course & had a ball! You learn from your mistakes & make it better. I take my hat off to you guys for pulling of a comp this big. You can tell by my avatar that I'm not afraid of mud! I'm gonna try like hell to make it again & the Crew Cab will be ready! |

Tim you will do just fine, I think if you have a mud pit or sand trap etc. you should let a couple guys run it before the comp. starts that way the rocks will be coated for the first guy running as well as the rest to even out the playing field. And try not to have obsticales that will wear down over the course of the day (rotten logs etc.) and the water issue bring it on that's90% of the fun as long as it's not over the roofline I'm fine with it. You will always have a few that will bitch and moan, but they will no matter what happens.. Just show up ready for anything and you wont be suprised. Let me know if you need any help Thanks Lance

I like what I see so far Tim. Let me know when you are going to be there, I will be there early to help you build courses. No family this year, so I am rolling out alone! I have been a victim of water damage the last two years, this year all my rigs are virtually submersible now as a result. Live and learn, it won't keep me away from Helena! The Railroad Comp was killer, can't wait to see what Montana has in store this year... |

Jeremy, I'm planning to head over on Tuesday the 12th, and get started on the courses early Wednesday morning. It'll be interesting to see what the terrain is like up at the comp site, since it'll be different than last year. I have ideas in my head what I want the courses to look like, but the available terrain will dictate what things will look like. At least Ben said a mini excavator will be available for me to use, and the 4000 hours of experience I have will come in handy . I also have some bridge, and tunnel ideas that I hope to incorporate. Should be cool. What do we have now, about 10 weeks left? 75 days or so......damn it's coming up fast.....

I don't see what everyone is bitching about. I barely even noticed the rising water levels last year. I found some archived on board footage of my run on course three with my Mounty. You will see the run was flawless and I think even won me the event. http://www.rccrawler.com/tv/mounty_in_desert.html Last edited by badger; 03-04-2009 at 11:12 PM. |
