July 12th, JPH Crawler Comp in Nor-Cal

1 Attachment(s)
R/C Rock Crawling Competition, July 12th,
hosted by Jake's Performance Hobbies

#1 Rule: Have Fun!

#2 Rule:
Ask questions! Yes, that's right, ask us questions. At the shop before the event, during the event, after the event. We want you to have a good time, so please ask us questions if something is not making sense.

What to expect:

The basic idea is to get r/c rock crawling enthusiasts together for a little friendly competition But, it's more than that! Enjoy some time showing off your rig, see other cool rigs, watch some great driving (and some not so great driving), and overall just hang out with friends who enjoy the hobby of r/c rock crawling.

What's a "Comp" all about:

For the comp part of the day, there will be three courses built out of the JPH crawler course. The panels and obstacles used will vary and are sure to challenge our drivers. There will be "Gate Markers" on the courses, each driver will need to wheel their crawler over, through, and around the obstacles but still drive in-between each set of Gate Markers.

Each driver will get a chance at running all three courses. Points are deducted for clearing the Gate Markers, and points added for things like using reverse, touching a Gate Marker, having to roll-over your rig, etc ... The Driver with the lowest total score from all three course wins.

What to bring:
Your crawler, radio, batteries and basic tools. You might also consider sun screen, a small table, chairs, an EZ-UP and weather appropriate clothes (clothing is not optional!)

If possible, please ride share to the event with other drivers. We should have plenty of parking, as we will overflow into the old Taco Bell parking lot. But, it's always helpful to save some parking spots for the other businesses in our strip mall.

And, speaking of businesses .... Please support our local shops! And, when you do, please mention you're there because of the crawling event. We have fast food, Chinese and Mexican food, and a market.

This time the comp course will be set up in the parking lot if the weather is anything but rain. So we'll have more room for everyone.

Signups, fees and tech:
9:00AM Each Driver will fill out a short signup sheet (name, rig info, etc ..) A quick "Tech inspection" of each rig will happen during sign ups. Things like wheelbase will be checked at this time. (Please don't freak out about the Tech. If you have questions about your rig, bring it into the shop ANYTIME before the comp and we'll check it over!)

Entry Fee for the comp will be $5.00 per rig.

Tech Note: No tire additives allowed at the JPH comps. Simple Green, or other non-sticky, washing tricks are ok. But, absolutelty no glue ot sticky additives allowed.

9:30 am Drivers meeting and Comp to start shortly after!
The drivers meeting will cover each course and the basic rules. All questions will be answered and then it's time to start the comp!

All three courses will be running at the same time.

We will use an open running order. This means you can line up on any course and make your run when you want to. Course will be kept open for 10 minutes after the last driver, and call out the closing time. It is up to each driver to make sure you run all three courses.

Classes:
2.2 Comp: Follows the USRCCA rules. This class is for rigs that follow these competition rules and might be competing in other comps in Nor-Cal. Complete rules are listed herewww.usrcca.com

Courses, Scoring and Points:

Courses: There will be three (3) courses set up for this comp. Each course will have a series of "gates" to get through. The number of gates will vary on each course. Drivers will run each course, one at a time.

Gates: Two markers make up a gate. The object is to drive you crawler over, around, through, the obstacles and through each set of markers. Gates are used to direct the crawler through the course in an intended direction.

Points/Penalties: The driver with the fewest points, the lowest total score of all three course, wins. Points are added to a driver's score for penalties like using reverse (1), roll overs (5), repairs (10), touching a gate marker (10), etc ....

Progress Points: These are awarded (and subtracted from the total score) for each gate cleared. Start gates and finish gates do not count. Progress points are 1 point per gate cleared.

Scoring: Each course will have a judge and/or a scorekeeper keeping track of each drivers progress. Score sheets are used to note down penalties, progress points, and total scores.

Pointing Out:
If 20 points is reached during any one gate, the driver has pointed out for this gate and will be moved to the next gate. No progress points are awarded for that gate. If 40 points is reached on a course, a driver has pointed out for that course and his run on the course is finished. 40 points is the maximum any driver can earn for a course.

Something to remember:
This Comp will be the first for many local drivers. We'll be taking things seriously, but with a relaxed attitude. This is a learning experience for both the judges and staff, and the drivers. The #1 rule comes first.
#1 Rule: Have Fun!

I know what you have just read sounds like a lot, and it is a lot to take in (please read it as many times as needed!). But, please know this Comp will be fun. Challenging yes, but also fun. The JPH staff is here to help you out and answer your questions. Please come by the shop, with your crawler, and ask as many questions as you would like.

Last year, we did not worry about a sign up list on the comp thread, as we handle all signups the morning of the comp. But, everyone is welcome to sign up here if they would like to! "thumbsup"

JConcepts sent us some gift certificates! We'll be having a small drivers raffle at our event. I'm sure more donations will come in, and JPH will kick down some products as well! "thumbsup"
