Default North Bay RC Crawlers - Scale NIGHT Competition and GTG - 8/8, Flat Rock

North Bay RC Crawlers - Scale NIGHT Competition and GTG

This will be the second scale RC crawler competition hosted by NBRCC. This will be a evening / night comp so the lights or LED's on your truck will be the only light source for the course. Driver and judge will each be allowed one headlight or flash light to navigate, but that is it, no spectators lighting the course! We will also have glow bracelets to wrap around the gate markers. Both 1.9 and 2.2 scale RC rock crawlers are welcome but a minimum of 10x 2.2's will be required to run the class. If time permits we will have a night trail run after the comp.

Note: There are some minor changes to the rules, I have high-lighted them in RED.

Location: Flat Rock - Santa Rosa, CA.

Click here for map of comp location

Date: Saturday, August 8th 2009

Times: Tech starts at 6:30 PM, drivers meeting at 7 PM sharp, the comp will start shortly thereafter and would be nice to conclude by 10PM. If time permits the trail run will start immediately after the scale competition is complete.

Entry Fees: No entry fee to compete.

Classes: Scale 1.9 and Scale 2.2. (Min. 10 entries for Scale 2.2 class).

Rules: The goal of a scale competition is to bring RC rock crawlers that look and perform much like full size trucks seen on the street or trail. The rules for this event are based on those created by Nor-Cal RCRC as well Unimoger for the Montana Scale Design 2009 Scale Nationals. Your overall score for this event will be determined by the scale appearance of your vehicle as well as how well you drive on course during the competition.

1.9 Scale Class:
- The 1.9 scale class will be limited to vehicles with wheels that are 1.9” in diameter.
- You may modify 2.2 tires to fit 1.9 wheels but you will receive penalty points.

2.2 Scale Class:
- The 2.2 scale class will be limited to vehicles with wheels that are 2.2” in diameter.
- You can only run one vehicle in one class; you can not run a 1.9 in the 2.2 class.

General Scale Rules (both 1.9 and 2.2 scale class):
- Wheelbase is only limited by the body you run, the wheels must generally be within the fender wells of the body.
- No limit on track width but wheels must generally be within the fender wells of the body.
- You must run a complete body, some fender trimming is allowed but the basic shape must be retained.
- Vehicles with a tube bed require that the bed is capable of carrying a full sized spare laid flat.
- No four-wheel steering will be allowed.
- Dig will not be allowed unless it is used to engage/disengage 4wd (rear wheels must drive the vehicle when in 2wd mode).
- Vehicle battery must be mounted on the chassis. You cannot mount the battery on the axles or upper links.
- Vehicle must have a frame-railed chassis, comp style TVP chassis’s will not be allowed.
- Tube chassis vehicles must have a hood panel, a roof panel and both a left and a right side panel. Tuber chassis dimensions must be no more that 1/2" shorter on each side than the wheelbase and track width. For example if the overall length of your tube chassis is 10.5" then the center of your front and rear axles cannot protrude more than 1/2" beyond the chassis resulting in a 11.5" wheelbase MAXIMUM.

Scale Competition Scoring System:
The following scale items and features will earn points to be scored during tech inspection. These points will be deducted from your final score at the conclusion of the competition. A maximum of -25 “scale” points can be deducted.

- Hard body (-5)
- Leaf spring suspension (-2 for one axle, -5 for both axles)
- Frame mount steering servo (-5)
- Axle mount steering servo (+2)
- Interior (-3)
- Interior with driver (-5)
- Trailer (-5, must be towed during the comp)
- Functional spare tire (-3)
- Non-functional spare tire (-1)
- Functional winch (-3)
- Non-functional winch (-1)
- Lighting systems and LED’s (-2, must be on both front and rear of vehicle and must be functional during the comp)
- Unmodified tires* (-3)
- Bumpers (-1 for front, -1 for rear, -3 for both)
- Tube frame, exo cage, tube bed (-3, must be made of metal)
- Roof rack, ladder rack, headache rack (-2)
- Boat or canoe (-3, must be removable)
- Camping gear: cooler, shovel, axe, sleeping bag, tent (-1 each, maximum of four)
- Recovery gear: hi-lift jack, jerry can, functional tow strap, snatch block, d-rings (-1 each, maximum of four)

The following points will be scored during the scale competition:

- Gate progress (-1)
- Reverse (+1) removed one free reverse per gate
- Gate (+10)
- Reposition (+10)
- Rollover / Touch (+5)
- Repair (+10, no time limit, one minute will be added to your time when you return)
- Winching / Rescue (+2 if you use your winch on your vehicle, +5 if someone winches you or uses a tow strap to rescue you)

DNF highest score is a +40
DNS highest score is a +50

* Modified tires are any tires that are sectioned, narrowed, reduced or “modified” in anyway.

Notes: The course(‘s) will have 6-10 gates and a time limit of approximately one minute per gate. We will have a open running order for the competition, please have your rig ready to run when the last competitor completes the course.

We need volunteer judges and scorekeepers. There are no public bathrooms at this location, park in the area designated by the following map:

Click here for map of parking location

Please stay to south side of the Flat Rock Circle, this is a neighborhood so we must do our best not to disturb the residents. Please pack out what you pack in and let’s have a great time!
