Default PARC - BB12 - Sunday December 18th Comp - Papago Park - 2.2 and Unlimited

Phoenix Area Rock Crawlers (PARC)
Boulder Battle #12 (BB12)
Sunday December 18th
8:45am sign up, 9am comp start
Papago Park
2.2 and Unlimited Class

The last time I was at Papago Park they had a bunch of rock piles. I will check that these are still there the day before the comp. These rock piles will be very different from what we normally run. Constant obstacles, one after the other. Lots of sharp edges to hang up on. Not allot of vertical stuff so cg will play less of a role in performance. Hopefully this terrain will equalize the shafties and clods, so bring it on shafty owners.

If these rock piles are no longer there the backup location will be the summit.

More detailed instructions and maps to come.

Sounds good. That gives me a little over two weeks to finish my unlimited TXT, maybe I can get it done... Although, this is the day after Mitch's wedding and my birthday, so I'll have to play this one by ear...

When we get together for this comp we need to discuss enforcing or not enforcing more of the vehicle spec rules for the 2006 season. Topics such as:

Bodies fitting into the spec
2.2 4 wheel steering? (keep it or go 2ws like everyone else)
Etc.

This sounds good to me. Just enough time to finish my tlt. Maybe even get a second truck going. Just got to remember not to back over the marker again lol.

Yeh, those markers really hurt when you hit them by accident. A mistake you only make once so easily.

Alright, the rock piles are still there and this spot looks awesome!! The first real change of terrain for us since the BB series began. Rock piles are really close to parking and we have facilities close by. Also, the rock piles will even the shafty/clod gap.

8:45am sign up, 9am comp start
2.2 and Unlimited Class

Chad, AZVader and myself will have our 14" wheelbase/Drivers/Spec Class trucks with us and we may run one stage with them. Anyone that wants to can drive my 14" wheelbase truck.

Driving directions:

From EAST:

Take the 202 to Priest Drive North (right on Priest). Priest changes names to Galvin Pkwy. After Van Buren Street, make a right into Papago Park/Phoenix Zoo. Then follow the maps to the crawl spot.

From the WEST:

Take I-10 into 202. Take the exit for Priest Drive and head North (Left on Priest). Priest changes names to Galvin Pkwy. After Van Buren Street, make a right into Papago Park/Phoenix Zoo. Then follow the maps to the crawl spot.

Hey Kevin, have you checked with the park rangers to make sure they will let us hold the comp there?

That would be a good idea! I didn't even think of that and hope we don't run into any problems. I don't think we will though. It's such a well used area and those rocks are out in the open. No one will think anything of a large group hanging around there. But I'm still going to keep my fingers crossed that we don't have a problem.

Another great day out on the rocks. We had a TXT in 1rst and 3rd. Tony's rig performs awesome and is very durable. Thanks for letting me drive it Tony. Also thank you Mike for letting me drive your 2.2 stick.

The six month point series will begin in January. Events will be every 3 weeks and alternate between the three classes. We will try to have prizes for the top 3 winners in the point series in each class. Schedule will look something like this:

Class 1: Unlimited
Class 2: Drivers/Spec
Class 3: Unlimited 2.2 (unanimous vote today to keep independent rear steer)

January 8th (Class 1 and 2)
January 29th (Class 2 and 3)
February 19 (Class 3 and 1)
March 12 (Class 1 and 2)
April 2 (Class 2 and 3)
April 23 (Class 3 and 1)
may14 (Class 1 and 2)
June 4 (Class 2 and 3)
June 25 (Class 3 and 1)

Class 2 Details:

Focus:

• Cost Reduction
• Spec Class (focus on drivers performance, not vehicle performance)
• Easy for newcomers to enter the class
• Easy to find challenging terrain

Focus Breakdown:

• Cost Reduction
o Servos limited to 150oz-in of torque or less.
o No adjustable motor mounts (13 tooth pinions – Clod)
o 2ws only

• Spec Class (focus on drivers performance, not vehicle performance)
o 4 link type suspension only.
o Battery must be mounted on chassis (Clod).
o Shafties can have creative battery placement at this point in time.
o No BTA (Behind the Axle) steering.

• Easy for newcomers to enter the class
o 6 cell sub-c packs required (Clod).
o Servo Savers required. (reduce the chance of broken servo gears)

• Easy to find challenging terrain
o 14” Wheelbase (13.75” to 14” allowable, no more, no less)
o Tire size will be limited – Currently running Proline Maxx Masher (No 40 series – Currently available tires only)

• Miscellaneous
o Body must include grill, tailgate, and full doors.
o Body must be cut at least 1/16” below factory body lines. Any body removal beyond this will only be allowed where there is tire interference with the body. Any bodies not already approved for the class must be voted in by the club.

Sorry I couldn't make it everyone. I didn't have enough time to finish my TXT (actually I didn't even try... ). With the new baby on the way, Christmas shopping to complete, and a million other projects to work on, time has gotten extremely precious. (Plus, there were probably a few too many Coronas at Mitch's reception last night... )

I WILL have the TXT with new chassis done in time to start the new points series in January. Count on it. If not....I'll make up some more excuses...

Rich, you should make your txt a 14" wheelbase spec/drivers class truck. We are intentionally going to make the shafty's and clods very close. Should be a fun class.

Why would I want to do that? I plan on whuppin' the sticks in the unlimited class!

Actually, it doesn't sound like too bad of an idea, except I don't wanna run a servo saver, and I already have GT's glued on the wheels.

Also, got the special drill bit I needed to make my links in the mail today

No problem Kevin, I'm glad you liked driving it. I guess it's the driver and not the truck seeing as how you still got 1st.

My TXT with Kevin at the helm....

Default Pics from the Crawl

It was a bit chilly this morning but it warmed up nicely. The new crawl spot was fun, lots of lines and lots of piles. I like the idea of Crawl/BBQ, we'll have to try that sometime.

Here's one of the piles

Tony's ride had an extra driver today

Ron bugging out

Chad's Spec truck

Brian's turn

Rick squeezes through

SWEET TXT-1 !!!

Now for Kevin's Spec truck

And finally Tony's TLT, YEAH more 2.2s !!!

I wish I'd taken more shots of the 2.2s.
