I went out to Globe today to meet up with Big and lil Rich and to scope out some areas for our part of the comp. There will be plenty of areas to crawl on. We found a spot that will be good. It will allow us to set up an easy-up, table and chairs. The spot will be perfect for 2.2 rigs. Possibly too easy for unlimited, be we scoped out some spots nearby that are really challenging for the unlimited rigs. So we should have really good terrain to run on for most of the comp.

It takes about 1 1/2 hours to get out there. Take 60 all the way to Globe. Look for the mile markers. At mile marker 252 there will be a junction, you will make a left hand turn at that junction (signs say 77 north). Go about 1/4 to 1/2 mile and turn left again into the drive in theatre. There will be plenty of signs and traffic, you can't miss it.

I've been thinking about way's to get spectators involved. A few ideas:

Charge a couple bucks and spectators can get a 5-10 minutes lesson on how to drive the trucks and 10-15 minutes play time. We need to charge for this so everyone doesn't just do it and then our trucks are broken by the end of the day! I'm thinking $10 is fair. Money would go straight to the owner of the truck that is participating in this.

Another possibility is a spectator comp. Maybe not this time, but in the future. We can have two identically setup trucks. There will be an entrance fee to enter the comp and a limited number of entrees. Then we'll run it as a normal comp for them.

Here are some pics of the area's well be holding the comp on:

You should be jealous! As far as I've seen in both photos and in person Arizona has by far the best rock crawling terrain for r/c crawlers. And think of all those times you came out to the west coast and missed out!

Yes, big and lil Rich are definitely interested and it should turn out to be a great event and a learning experience. I think having some way for the spectators to drive will dramatically change the spectators interest and will be a big hit.

I hope to come down and check it out. My crawler might be done by then but having never driven it or any other crawler before I probably won’t bring it. I'd like to run some before I participate in something like this. I would be willing to take pics, videos, help out, be someone’s beoch ect ect. I have a still digi cam but no video cam, but like I said would be willing to take video using someone else’s camera. Let me know if this type of help is needed.

I’m up in Prescott.

Man that is beautiful! I really miss the desert, I lived an hour and half west of Phoenix and there are literally 1000's of great crawling spots! Can't wait to move back!

I contacted Big'Rich about admission and parking for us:

"Get me a list, I can take care of the drivers and +1 wife or kid, all other friends and such will need to pay. Parking will be tight, you'll need to car pool if possible to park in the lower competitor parking area. The upper spectator parking is an option, but they would have to pay at that lot. - Rich"

So if your coming pm me your name so i can add it to the list.

I plan on going. I will bring my EZ Up. I have a new M8 Radio so I will have rear steering again. I'll bring a 2.2 & a Unlimited Truck.
Chad if you or anyone thinks of something that we may need for this comp and
I can help let me know.

Rick

Saturday April 8th I intend to go to Globe and try out some of the spectator ideas I had described above. It will be a chance to make a couple bucks and give the spectators a first hand try at crawling. It should be fun. Is anyone else interested in going Saturday for this purpose?
