PARC Boulder Battle #2, Sunday, January 9th, 2005

PARC Phoenix Arizona Rock Crawlers

Boulder Battle #2
Remote Control Rock Crawling Competition
Sunday, January 9th, 2005
Phoenix, Arizona

Boulder Battle #1 was a blast and we all had a good time. We will most definitely improve the rules and set things up so that the event moves along more smoothly and the action remains constant.

The competitions will be held where 24th street dead-ends at South Mountain Park, approximately 6 miles south of Sky Harbor Airport and Downtown Phoenix. Parking is available just west of the dead-end. A follow-the-leader/fun-crawl will start at 9:30am. The competition starts at 11am and will run until 1-2pm. After the competition we will continue to crawl for fun. A map of the location is provided below. For more information, contact boulderbattles@yahoo.com

Capital Metals on 48th St. has a pretty nice selection of metals.
They sell all kinds of drops and small cut pieces of aluminum,
brass, copper, steel, tube, etc.

Since I'm stuck here in the boonies with no steel supplier, I get my stuff at Checker (brake line) and home depot (hardware)

It is much harder than the stuff I got at ACE, thats for sure!!

But its all about the steel  I really like steel links, they're easier to make, threads are much stronger, and they slide over stuff well. And its good weight down low.

I am too bad at avoiding work hardening, so I avoid stainless like the plague

Some alloys tap better than others. I'm also using Tap Magic.
But.....yeah......stainless is a pain to thread.

Looks like my crawler should be together in time.

So far I have -

TLT axles
IMEX Single Dually Tires
Stampede Transmission
55t Motor
JR XS3 Tx/Rx
Super Rooster Receiver
Maxx Aluminum Big Bore Shocks

Just need -

Chassis
Links (15" to 16" Wheels base)
Maxx Sliders
Some small things from INETRC.COM

Pics hopefully in a week or 2.

Sounds good minus the tires.. You will hate those!

For a TLT rim? Not much... For clod axles, I just took maxx wheels and bolted the clod hub to it. Not sure how TLT wheels/axles work. Those dually tires are too narrow, and the tread is pretty hard

They're related, but I would say low COG. Most guys run 16" +/- 1"

most rigs will be 16" wheelbase with low CG's. Hopefully there will be some other guys with smaller rigs and you can compete against each other. either way, you will have a ton of fun!

Re: PARC Boulder Battle #2, Sunday, January 9th, 2005

looking foward to meeting you and seeing the new rcrockgear chassis. the 16" wheelbase will be more competitive with the majority of trucks that will be at the comp.
