| RC Overland Team Challenge 2013 *Info Thread* The OG Team Event *Info Page* Ask all your tech questions and keep the chat here..Thanks May 19th will bring on the 2013 season of the RC Overland Team Challenge!! THE ORIGINAL TEAM CHALLENGE We had so much fun last year and were back for another. As we have said before, this event would not have happened with out all of your support and participation. All locations chosen this year are more centralized for day events. Equaling in less trip cost and hopefully the same to more participation. The season has been shortened to 3 main events and a Championship. May 19th - Aug 25th - 2013. Season two will bring even more competition to the table with the addition of the Rally section to the new 2 lap 100 TM courses. The additional Rally sections will put team members head to head against each other for an extra 20+ TM race section that must be completed 1 time, anytime during the teams 2 lap course.. All Rally sections will be scored by a course Trail Boss/Judge and the individual drivers points and times in these sections will effect Team times and penalty totals. Update: With the IFS craze of the 1:1 world and since this event is mainly based off the King of Hammers concept of almost Unlimited vehicles following base safety rules and tech guidelines. For us, instead of safety these guidelines are to keep things scale, progressive and at the same time competitive. With this being said, IFS front / Live rear axle vehicles are allowed if they pass tech and have all the mandatory items. (No IRS - Independent Rear Suspension) The only manufactured IFS/Live rear axle vehicles allowed: Vaterra Twin Hammers Tamiya CC-01 *All custom IFS vehicles must be a frame rail chassis, 3/4 tub chassis measured from front to back or a complete tube chassis and pass an onsite or online visual inspection* Please refer all tech questions to this Info page. 2013 Season Schedule Event 1 When: May 19th 2013 Where: Red Hills @ Red Hills Rd & Serpentine Loop Rd N. | Re: RC Overland Team Challenge 2013 RC Overland Team Challenge (RCOTC) Rules of Competition: 2013 No running allowed on the course. (A jog or fast walking to keep up with the vehicle is not considered running) There is absolutely NO penalty for reversing, passing or self-recovery in the Overland Challenge. This is a team RC challenge not a foot race and we want it to be a safe experience for everyone. Drivers: Will be allowed to catch their rigs in the event to avoid excessive damage or total loss. A 10 minute Hand of God penalty will be issued. This can never be used as a strategic move on course or as a way to cross the finish line during a RCOTC event. All finishing vehicles must cross the finish line under their own power, being towed by a team mate or other competitor. Fill In Driver: The Team using a (fill in driver) loses their pole position for that race and goes to the back of the starting line. The (fill in) vehicle must pass the same tech as every other rig on course. (This is only for emergency use and the unexpected). Judging System: Teams will be judged and kept "on course" using a mixture of the honor system, 2 lap course check point, rally course, TTC sections and volunteer trail boss. The Trail Boss will be on course acting as a judge and traffic control keeping teams informed, in line, and on track. R.C.O.T.C Score & Point System: Course Penalties TM: + 2 min Course Boundary: + 2 min Hand of God: (H.O.G) + 15 min D.N.F: (see below guidelines for more info) Guidelines: Each Teams course times and progression points will be recorded all season and will apply to the standings only if collected as a team. Times and progression points will be affected differently on every course due to course lay out, teamwork and the capability of the rigs. All course points will be collected as a team. An organized team is important for driver / team consistency and rank in the season standings. (Those who play together stay together) The teams with the quickest course times, least amount of penalties, and the most progression points will determine the podium standings of each challenge. The teams that have completed the most events with the quickest course times, the least amount of penalties, and the most progression points of the series will determine who are the top teams / drivers of the series and who gets into the Series Championship at the end of the season. No Solo Driver Finishes: Both vehicles in a team must cross the finish line as a team. No solo driver finishes, you leave as a team, you return as a team. This means towing your teammate or getting the rigs fixed and back on the trail under their own power to finish the course. If both vehicles in the team cannot progress any further on the course, they will DNF at the last point of progression / TM. Trail Repair Guidelines: Trail repairs are always allowed on course at all RCOTC events. (Vehicles should be pulled off to the side of the course for repairs) A driver can leave to get supplies while leaving a teammate with the vehicles on course if they wish to progress from the point of break down. If the damage is too extensive to fix on the trail and the vehicle/vehicles need to be removed from the course in order to be fixed, than the driver/drivers have the option to go “back to the shop”. Once the team is back under its own power they have to DRIVE their vehicles back to the point of the break down. The main course does not have to be followed and a faster more direct route that does not interfere with other drivers progression of the course is allowed and highly recommended. Progression Points: Each TM is considered a progression point of the course. For example (if the course has 100 TM and a team has finished the course, than that team will receive 100 progression points for that event / course finish. This also applies to those drivers who only make it 50 TM and have to leave the race. Whatever TM each team makes it to if unable to progress any further or finish the course should be marked down on their score sheet as there final progression point of that course. Teams will receive a set maximum course finish time for that event. (Progression points can and will effect a team’s placement in the season standings) Course Time: This is also a timed event. Teams will receive a set start time and will be racing against the clock as well as other teams. The clock will stop once the last team mate crosses the finish line. Driver skill, trail knowledge, team work, trail penal-ties, and rig capability will determine overall finish times. Course Penalties: 1.Trail Marker : Vehicle hit / touch of TM = 2 min. penalty (every touch) (Reversing through a TM is not allowed. Red is always on the right) Each TM hit / touch = 2 min add on to total course time. The TM is always live, penalties continue each time the TM is touched. There is no limit to the amount of TM penalties for each driver. Winch lines do not count as a vehicle touch, a driver should not be penalized for his or her winch line touching the TM while in use or any other time. Remember, that each driver of a team has to clear each gate before progressing to the next. Bypassing a TM is not allowed and can result in a DNF. A competitor cannot progress around a TM to assist a team mate or fellow competitor through a TM. 2. Course Boundary: TTC (Team Trail Challenge) & Rally sections. = 2 min penalty. A vehicle touch to the ribbon or any boundary in a TTC section = 2 min add on to total course time. The driver’s feet must stay out of the boundary area at all times. This will also be treated as a boundary touch = 2 min add on as well. There is no limit to the amount of boundary penalties for each driver.( If the driver hits the TTC boundary 10 times then the score sheet gets marked 10 times in the TM location given on the sheet. (Each mark equaling 2 min). 3. Hand of God: (H.O.G) = 10 min penalty. (THIS SHOULD BE A LAST RESORT ONLY) This is only for that last resort to catch your vehicle before it is subjected to complete and total loss or destruction. This should not be used as common practice during a simple too bad roll over. Each time this is used for each driver it will add 10 min every time. (The Hand of God can never be used as a way to cross the finish line or as a strategic move during any RCOTC event). 4. D.N.F: (Did Not Finish) This is exactly what it sounds like. When a driver or drivers cannot complete the course they receive what is called a D.N.F. and mark down their last point of progression (TM). A TM section can never be bypassed. This action will result in a DNF for that driver and team. All winching guidelines must be followed or the Trail Boss has the power to suggest a DNF. The final say will be left up to RCOTC Staff if there is any dispute on the call. (Please follow the winching guidelines, this helps keep the scale realism of this competition). (Remember to mark down on your score card the last TM progressed through as a team. Don’t forget). Winching Guidelines: All natural anchors or recovery gear: This is a smart driving event your winch may be your last resort or it could be the only way.... Ground anchors will be set in specific spots of the course when natural anchors or recovery gear are not possible or available. PullPal or self-recovery anchors mandatory. All recovery gear must be carried on the vehicle at all times when not in use of recovery. NO HAND OF GOD except when there is no other choice in excessive damage or total loss of your vehicle. (NO SHOE LACE WINCHING, NO JUDGE WINCH ALLOWED) There is no penalty for self-recovery in the RCOTC. Not following these winching guidelines can result in a ( DNF ) penalty for that team. Ground Anchors include: Vehicles, PullPals, custom ground anchors of all sorts, screw drivers, hex drivers, fishing hooks, custom winch hooks….etc.. All anchors and recovery gear must be carried on the vehicle at all times when not in use of recovery. Applied Ground Anchor Pressure: (Pressure by hand is NOT allowed anymore with Pullpals, winch hooks, or anchoring devices) Pressure by hand may only be applied to a vehicle and is only allowed when a team mate or competitor vehicle is not heavy enough. A team vehicle can always be used as a ground anchor and may have pressure applied to it in order to support a team vehicles weight during recovery. One of the team or another competitor vehicle can also park on the said ground anchor in order to secure it. *Please try to use these methods at all times in order to keep the scale realism of this event.* *Not following these winching guidelines can result in a 10 min (Hand of God) penalty for that team* (TM) Trail Marker Guidelines: 100 TM 2 lap courses: Red flags are always on the right / passenger side of the progressing vehicle showing the course direction at all times. (No Reversing through the TM) (Each Overland Challenge will be a 2 lap 100 TM course with challenges.) All Trail Markers must be cleared by both vehicles before any team member can progress. All 4 tires of each vehicle must clear past the TM. Gates are not open. ( PENALTY FOR TOUCHING OR REVERSING THROUGH THE TM 2 MINUTE ADD ON) Just make it and clear the gate as a team. No straddling of gates. Rally Section Guidelines: (No penalty for self-recovery in rally boundaries) Rally sections will be placed throughout the course randomly. These sections will test individual driver skill and their rigs capability. They will also serve as course check points verifying that all teams are staying on course. Each team mate will race head to head for this part of the course and will be followed by a judge. No touching the rally boundaries with the vehicles. = 2 min. penalty Gate Touch = 2 min. penalty Team mate bumping is allowed. Tow straps and winching are allowed to assist progress. All broke down vehicles in the rally sections must team pull or winch through the course to avoid a 10 min H.O.G penalty. Passing is allowed everywhere it is possible during an RCOTC event. I have the format for the solo rally events. Just not sure I want to put on 2 events a month for the whole summer... It's a busy time of year for me at work and play. Maybe... If we can fit it in at each team event... The Rally course used by the team event could serve a double purpose... | |

I had a few questions about the new rules: 1. All vehicles must have a basic 2D interior or complete window set to pass tech. My car doesn't have a 2D interior but I do have windows (tinted at that ), so would that count as a complete window set? 2. In the functional scale items... What about scale hooks? Thanks |

1. Yes. Yours would be Lexan molded into the body. 2. No. A winch hook should be part of your winch and this is a mandatory item. Sorry. The only items worth scale points are the items listed. 26 total points available. Thanks for reading the rules Butters. Last edited by DORK VADER; 03-18-2013 at 09:52 AM. | |
