who is ready for this epic poker run i hear and see some big names coming to this event and i am personally excited for this. i have hiked that mountain 3 times now (twice with Jim, thanks buddy) wanting to really make sure we do this thing right for y'all. after hiking it this morning with Jim a friend and fellow club member Lil Joe showed up and assisted us on previewing the trail. then Lil Joe and I decided afterwards that since I will not be running in the poker run that it would be fun to run it now and it would also give me an idea as to what was doable or not. besides Lil Joe has a Axial JK with maybe 20 minutes run time on it, not after today we left from the start area at about 1:30pm and returned shortly after 4pm so to say it has been trail tested and alot of fun is an understatement. i hope all of you enjoy it as much as we did today. oh yeah be sure and have some batteries ready, Lil Joe and I are using 1600mah 2s lipos and he went through 3 1/2 packs today

Guys here is a quick rundown of the trail: After sign ups we will periodically start groups of drivers who will take a short drive up the hill to our very own big dude at station 1 for a chance at the wheel of fortune. Give her a spin and win an instant prizes, cash, or maybe even a joker card to be used later on the run? There's a sweet bridge canyon crossing on your way to station 2 promptly named "The Pumpkin Patch". Reach on in the black pumpkin of doom and hopefully pull out something you will be happy with. Note: we can not guarantee what is actually inside the black pumpkin if doom so BEWARE!!!! As you descend down to yucca valley be extra careful of your footing as there are loose rocks everywhere and it's rumored more than one scale family has been lost to the ruins below. If you make it safely to station 3 there will be the Turkey stuck in a Yucca tree waiting for you. Now its time to gut this sucker for Thanksgiving and you all are going to be asked to help so reach on in there and pull out your card and possibly even something else? Now on your way up the hill you will traverse through cactus flats and I have it on good authority there are some critters that have been stranded in this area for some time so if you could be so kind as to give one of them a ride back to base camp IN YOUR VEHICLE there may be a small reward. At the top of the hill you will see some relief in site as your about 1/2 way done with your trail but just before you take your break to enjoy the view we have a quick little "drivers challenge". You forklift drivers will appreciate this completely "in reverse" section but for many it's a skill still not mastered. Once you leave the top of the hill you will start back down toward shotgun alley but there are some tricky trails and large scale rocks here so don't lose focus just yet. As you complete the large rock descent you will notice our delightful Karni Kimi waiting for you at station 4 with a good ol' fashion carnival balloon pop game. Now if you pop a balloon here your chances are high of getting a great card to be used toward your poker hand but if not Kimi will give you one chance and one chance ONLY to purchase a second dart to try and get a better card if you wish. Do you feel lucky? Now in my opinion here is where the real fun BEGINS!! While hitting killer scale lines right down the gut of shotgun alley you will start to hear shotgun shooting in the distance. Yes that's right your clubs scale coordinator Rcjunky will be instructing anyone who wants to, on gun safety so they can have their turn at our shooting gallery. Yes that's right Rich has over 60 targets set up and ready for explosion! Hit a special target and automatically get a face card. Miss and well your card won't be as good as you may have hoped. (Participation is not required at this station and everyone will get a card regardless.) Now just as your heart pump is starting to calm down you look over and see the finish table a few hundred yards away. Your heart will race again with anticipation of winning the grand prize but you have one last section of true scaling to do before you can take home the cash. We would like to see no HOG'n (hand of god) in this section for you TRUE scale fanatics. Complete this section and pull into the finish with all 5 of your cards to see if you are the winner of the 2013 Turkey Crawl Poker Run. Dont forget about the Axial Ridgecrest raffle for $1 per ticket as this will be your last chance to get tickets. Hope this helps a few guys and we will see you on the rocks! |

It was a good time for sure. Congrats Rock Lobster for winning the $250 for the best Poker hand and Congrats Eddiefx for winning the Axial ridgecrest! There were many other winners and tons of fun to be had and I want to say thanks to all the 35+ guys/gals who made the trek out to the desert to have some fun with us. Here is a link to some great scaling pics and here are a few of the fun stops we had: One of my personal favorite's (Pritch you better be good, lol) difflocker was in there a bit longer than I was comfortable with: and how about this guy? Critter locations for those of you who didnt see them: And donkey who is still out on the trail somewhere: Last edited by Illeagle; 11-17-2013 at 12:01 PM. |

Nice picks Jim. Lisa aka TEAM DEBEAD found one of the crazy animals. And had it tied down with a free tow strap that WC supplied to all the drivers for just showing up. I have to give her props. She has been running a 90% bone stock honcho for years and always has a good time. Just aluminum links and a rooster esc. She ran the whole run with no breakages and on 1 battery. Just saying that it doesn't have to cost you a lot of money to have a good time and some fun at these events. |

Sorry I missed this event, it looked really, really fun! Had a last minute family emergency Friday eve, my son and his family were in a car accident on the freeway, luckily they are all ok, Daughter in law suffered minor injuries but all are still with us thank God! I had to help them deal with that since it happened so close to our house and I just didn't have the time to get my things together that night! Next time guys! |
