Talking Re: GSRCC Scale Endurance #8

Looking forward to my 2nd Endurance Event!!! Lets just hope I can keep whatever rig I'm driving from sinking into the water like last time. Hey, the esc lasted 3 more runs after the endurance #7 before the esc shorted and would only go into reverse.... Dat fixed now, but my boy won't let me take his Honcho, now dubbed "The River Rat". For some reason he doesn't trust me.
Looking forward to seeing all you guys again and I am so ready to get my scaler fix on... See you on the 25th!!!

You go though the campground at Beal's Point to the parking lot. Should hold over 200 cars. Google it and you will get an idea on what it looks like

Seph606's recommendations and hopefully helpfull hints:

Scale endurance 8 includes:
  1. Ultra grippy granite rock. For this type of rock, I recommend going easy on the throttle or upgrading to metal drivelines. This grippy rock increases the possibility of torque twisting the stock plastic drivelines (if the driver throttles out in a bind situation). Torque twisting spirals the spline of the plastic driveline or breaks it at the base of the spline. If you prefer the plastic drivelines, go easy on the throttle in a bind situation and bring spare parts, just in case.
  2. Loose vulcanic ash rock. This rock type is porous with a rough surface similar to sand paper and tends to break apart easy. There is a lot of grip on this type of rock. The same suggestions for the granite rock apply.
  3. Narrow granite rock. Listen and watch your servo and be sure a bind situation doesn't break knuckles, c-hubs, or axle housing. All stock plastic or all metal upgraded parts will help reduce the possibility of breaks.
  4. Sand. Drive slow to prevent sand kicking up and into the motor. Although, small amounts of sand may not be harmful, it's best to keep the motor as clean and free from debit as possible. Or you can have a good ol' time doing donughts in the sand and have a motor graveyard like me.
  5. Moderate gates (some pro level gates). Keep all four tires on the highest points of any rock section and plan a line for all four tires to follow through difficult section and go slow. Watch the tire placement of other drivers. Ask someone to help you through. Use your winch or tow strap. Don't keep trying the same line over and over again. Try it twice then try something different. If a spot becomes frustrating, let other people attempt the line while you cool down.
Other helpfull hints:
  1. Waterproofing is always a good idea. If you have it then you won't have to worry about it.
  2. Having a winch can save you time, money, and prevent frustration. If you pull up to a difficult spot, you can use your winch and get through the first time, rather than spending 5 minutes or more trying the same thing over and over again until you break something.
  3. Never be offended when someone gives you trail advise. These people may sound critical to you because you will likely already be frustrated. However, they are likely seeing that your frustrated and want to help you through it. Be willing to say thank you and let someone else try. Be willing to accept help if offered or have a plan "B".

*Note: Many people may already be aware of these suggestions. Please keep in mind that the GSRCC Scale Endurance is an event for all ages and skill levels. Always remember to have fun and help each other out. Always be good to each other on the trail and use good trail etiquette.

like zonkard said this hobby is about having fun,so if you find yourself frustrated and not having fun,sit down and relax for a minute and ask if someone can help you finish the course, after all its not about time

How does one become a chosen one? Sounds very ethereal. If it can help me drive crazy wickedly ungodly lines, can I become a chosen one... lol

Can't wait to roll with you guys next weekend. Folsom lake is going to be off the hook.
