| RRRCCKS Colorado series #5 9/30/07: Series Standings posted
Horsetooth is the spot. 9/30/07 We have a choice of 2 spots, one involves a short hike and well the other does too, but we may be able to use the gate like last time for a junk shuttle. I think we should aim for the new spot, Soldier Bay. Dylan will get the directions up and some pics, thank you Dylan!! As always Hobbytown is throwing down gift certificates for the top 3 in each class. Are you ready? Last edited by 666; 09-16-2007 at 08:48 AM. |

So here is the plan. Let me know your thoughts. We are proposing Soldier Bay as the location. Parking will be at the same area as the last comp at Horsetooth ( refer to directions below ). There is a small parking lot on your right less than a minute past the main parking area. This is where the short hike starts. Just follow the trail along the rock face down towards the water. Near the shore there is a place to get around the rock to the left. You can't miss it. This will mean that you should pack effieciently. No wagons! the trail is narrow. It will take 5 minutes to get to the area in a rocky cove on the reservoir. Good foot wear is suggested. Bring lunch if needed. Bring water and sunscreen if its warm. We can have a few vehicles at this smaller free lot to help with keeping toolboxes and some personal gear at the closer parking lot. You can drop off your gear at the is lot and then park back at the pay lot. We will have to set up a shuttle between the two parking lots. Remember that parking at the Sunrise lot is $6 for the day. Remember that any big jobs for the restrooms needs to be done at the Sunrise parking lot. So eat well and get the job done early. At the comp site just be discreet. Remember to pack out all you bring in. The Park and Rec guy gave us the OK without a permit as long as we keep it low impact. Directions from the South: Merge onto I-25 N / US-87 N toward FT COLLINS Take the HARMONY exit (exit 265) - Turn LEFT (West) onto E HARMONY RD(CO-68 W ROAD) Continue to follow HARMONY RD(CO-68 W ROAD) This will have some curves but don't turn off of HARMONY. HARMONY RD (CO-68 W) becomes CR-38E. Follow this up the hill to reservior. From here use the map on below link. As you first get to the reservoir, you meet with CR23, here you turn Right or North. You should still be on the East side of the reservoir. If you turn South, you have missed the turn. Continue North along the reservoir and turn left at the T-in the road ( continuing North). You drive across one damn and continue to the parking area labled Sunrise on the map (see link below for map). I believe it is just after the second cattle guard. This is the pay lot you will park in. Continue past this lot less than one minute. There will be a small parking lot on the Left just before the road crosses the next damn. This is where the hike to Soldier Bay starts. http://www.co.larimer.co.us/parks/horsetooth_map.htm So comments, suggestions, insults, sht talking welcome. Bring it. |

I hope to be there but that will depend on what I have for employment at the time. Nothing like tossing a scaler in the lake |

I don't know if I'll make it. I'll already be at the Rock Race all day Saturday so Sunday I'll probably have a ton of stuff to get done for school. |

I'm going to the XRRA shootout in the springs on Saturday. I should be able to make it Sunday, barring any weird problems. I'll just have to see though.

OUT, not like that's a shocker I got some tickets to the Endurocross at the National Western for Saturday night. The little guys and I will be there until the final is finished, which should be pretty late. I'm starting to get the itch to ride some more these days, and the youngest just got comfortable on the bicycle without training wheels. I guess that means my crawling days are going to be pretty few and far between, not that I was devoting the time to this like I wanted to anyway. At least the wife likes me spending the $$$ on bikes more than the "monster trucks". Late. |
