Exclamation Attention: CT and New England Crawlers!

This is an open invitation for all Connecticut-area RC rock crawler enthusiasts to join a new club, CT Rock Crawlers. The goal of CT Rock Crawlers is to add to the RC rock crawling scene and to bring more events (get togethers and competitions) to the area. This new club will compliment the existing New England-based club, and anyone and everyone is welcome to be a member of both organizations. We are very excited and hope you are, too. If you are interested in joining or just want to know more about us, please check out our site at CTRockCrawlers.com. There are no membership fees, and as a member you will have access to the most up-to-date news on RC Crawling in the Connecticut area, and you’ll also be eligible for our prize giveaways and raffles.

most of the crawls will be western CT based. we will also do some crawls on the eastern side of the state.

we dont mind traveling once in a while out of state, but myself and others would rather not travel 3 hours every week to crawl, wed rather crawl more local.

Glad you're interested. I hope others will be, too. It is the same as NERCC in the sense that it's a local RC rock crawling club. There are differences, however. For example, as Brandon pointed out, the club will have a lot (but not all) of events in western CT. Events will be held in other parts of CT and even outside of CT. In contrast, NERCC seems to be somewhat focused in Southeastern New England. We hope NERCC members join and come to our events when they can. We plan to do the same. The topic of competitions is, I'd say, one of official discussion with CT Rock Crawlers. This was not a reason why the new club was created, but it is something we're considering. One of the main things we want to do is spread the word about RC rock crawling in our area and to increase the number of participants and events.

Let me start out with saying I have nothing against another club in our area but I do need to clarify a couple of things.

There is a reason for that and perhaps it's the fact that there are not many serious rc crawlers in our area. We are not really focused on one particular location but have felt we needed to cater to a larger area in order to build a stronger group of members. We welcome new members and enjoy exploring new locations. We also believe it's only fair for the entire group to alternate the locations, thus giving each member a chance to show off their favorite spot with the club.

We are not against comps per say, it's just that there has never been enough people. In the past we have had many individuals commit to a crawl and never show. I have personally believed we needed to build some sort of member base before attempting any sort of comp.

joe,

i think there are many people who are serious about crawling in our area, the problem is they dont want to travel hours to go crawling, they want a local club. if enough local clubs get formed, then people will be more inclined to travel for competions and large get togethers. like i said before i would love to join you guys once in a while in RI and mass, but i would also like to be able to crawl locally every week or every other week.
we are also going to start doing some competions. if 4 people show up we will compete with 4 people. if 20 show up were compete with 20. by getting together and having fun i think the potentiol for this area is big, and i look forward to crawl with both clubs.

I hear ya, Joe. I wasn't trying to misrepresent or label NERCC or anything like that.

I think Brandon is right on the money.

Hi guys. Well, Kona touched on a few things, and I agree with all of what he posted. As Matt posted, he wasn't attempting to misrepresent or mislabel NERCC, so I think that there needs to be some clarification here. Just so everybody gets on the same page before too much time passes to set things straight.

NERCC has been established and crawling in NewEngland for going on 4 years now. Yes, 4 years, and it has always been the same ol' 4 of us, with an exceptional few that attend crawls sparatically. As Kona mentioned, there is always atleast a few commitments that never show up. We crawl all over because the 4 of us that have done it for these 4 years are 3 hours apart. We just alternate between CT and MA locations to be fair about driving. We can't keep it local to one place and still be fair to all of our 4 regular members.

We do our own local stuff. Trac95Ker and I live about 30 minutes apart. We meet and crawl at our own private locations on a (roughly) weekly basis. Kona is within a few minutes from Fort Pheonix, and just a bit further from Lincoln woods. If I'm not mistaken, Kona and S-Dog are somewhat close together and are planning to meet on thier own sometime in the near future. We do our own local things on a regular basis, we're just too far apart for it to be practical for all of us to meet more than monthly.

Us 4 make up the NERCC schedule, and determine where and how we crawl. Basically, we are NERCC. We never really intended for things to turn out that way, they just did because there was nobody else around for the first few years. We work so well together that things just went the way they did and we never really had to work out any differences amongst ourselves. Perhaps NERCC would have worked out differently if there was more locals around during our formative year or 2?

If we get new members, it'll be great. More members means more different trucks and more that we can learn from eachother collectively. New members will just have to understand that anything regarding NERCC is determined by the founding members. I really don't mean this in a rude or negative way, but: We've done this on our own for long enough to call our own shots, ya know?

It's great that there is some newbs around now who want to crawl in the CT area. Having another organization around can be a good thing. Since NERCC is run by 4 founding members who are a well oiled machine after all this time, the presence of another organization that does things perhaps a bit differently will be a good opportunity for anybody who wants to try different things. Of course, anybody is welcome to join or just crawl with NERCC. NERCC members certainly will attend CTC events whenever our own individual schedules allow.

I realize that this post is a bit long, and got into things that maybe should have been posted elsewhere. However, since there is this recent upsurge in newb local crawlers who maybe don't know the history behind this stuff, I feel this info needs to passed on/clarified. I know that none of us bear any ill will towards anybody else here, and there is certainly no reason that these 2 organizations cannot get along well and co-exist. As I said before; there can be benefits to having 2 different groups; it will allow for more people to fit in wherever they fit best. Since expanding the crawling scene in this area has been brought up a few times in this thread, it seems only nautral that there is 2 groups!

So anyhow, I'm just getting in from a 12 hour night shift and my fingertips are burnin'!!!!!!!!! Like Mr. Wonderful sadi so long ago, "Peace out Y'all".

Anywho, I cannot say anything more than Joe and Fullmod have already said. I am an (almost) founding member of NERCC, and my loyalties are with that group. However, that does not mean I will be disrespectful to this CT group. I will try to make it to the crawls that are reasonably close providing my schedule allows it. I have the same feelings you do. You would rather not drive 4+ hours to go crawling, and neither would I.

Wonderful, out.

I took my crawler to Mabell in south-western Mass on a wheeling trip on new year's day. Definitely a cool place to run it. Any of you guys ever been there?

I've never been there, but it rings a bell from my wheelin' days. Is there anything easy-access in there? My mini van doesn't do the trails quite as well as my Jeep did:-(
