Re: *_* C.I.'s Double Deuce Closed Cell Competition Ready Dual Stage Foams *_*

Basic Foam Starting Recommendations:

All 2.2 Comp trucks & tires;
5 - 6 pounds in weight
Tires 5.5" Tall & Shorter:
5.25 Double Deuce
Soft Outers - Front
Medium Outers - Rear

If your truck is in the four pound range, the 5.0" Double Deuce might be the better size to start with.

2.2 Scale Trucks
7 - 9 pounds in weight
5.5" Tall Tires:
5.5 Double Deuce
Medium Outers Front
Firm Outers Rear

5.75" Tall tires 6 - 8 pounds in weight; (set up more for scale rock crawling)
5.5 Double Deuce + Tuning Rings
Medium Outer Front + Medium Outer tuning ring
Firm Outer Rear + Firm Outer tuning ring

5.75" Tall tires 6 - 8 pounds in weight; (set up more for speed & trail rides)
6.0 Double Deuce / Do NOT use the tuning rings
Medium Outer Front
Firm Outer Rear

Clearly the word was already well out before I finally made this new thread for the new foam design. With no official announcement made, all I did was add them to the C.I. website, and in under a week we sold what would normally be a months worth of foam:shock:. That says a lot about the customers and what they think of this company and it's products"thumbsup". I salute and thank all of you that are making my dreams come true. Thank you, thank you!!!

So with that said, let's make this thread your question and answer page in regards to set ups, foam tuning, anything pertaining to the Double Deuce Crawler Foam line.

I'll start by letting everyone know that have we a new inner size, the 5.25". We needed it for the Boss Claws primarily, but it works well in the pitbulls. It's also a pretty good FOFF tire foam8).

The 5.0" & 5.25" will come with an all new outer foam that is now die cut. No more glue joints! The outers will be available in Soft, Medium, & Firm and this size will have it's own tuning ring as well.

Here is the new 5.25" Double Deuce:
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7090/6...0a23baf8_b.jpg

I wanted update this thread with more information. The 5.5 Double Deuce was never intended for the Boss Claw, but many people made it work. After testing and discussion with Team Drivers, I designed a new foam with the Boss Claw in mind. The brand new 5.25" Closed Cell Double Deuce Foams are in stock and now shipping.

Here is a comparison picture of the 5.25" & 5.5" Double Deuce:

Now if you have a sub 5 pound truck, you may want to consider the 5.0" Double Deuce:

Here is a height comparison of all four of the 2.2 size foams:

There are tuning rings now available for the 5.0" & 5.25" DD size as well.

The old conventional foam line is completely sold out.

The new closed cell inners are here and in stock. We only have the 5.5 & 6.0 outers though. We had new dies made for this all new foam line. All foam lines will now be die cut and available in Soft, Medium, or Firm Outers. All foam lines will now have tuning rings.

We are expecting a limited shipment on Monday of some outers for all three foam lines. I'm not entirely certain what is coming in. More Double Deuce closed cell inners will be in stock next week as well.

I got my new closed cells in today! Mounted in my Boss Claws. I really like the way they feel....testing this weekend. I will be testing them in some Khaos tires soon.

Thanks Eddie! I'm really digging them!

How firm are the closed cell inners when compared to the old inners?

They are very firm! The pics below will give you an idea of how much. The foams are prototypes but the newer lighter grey foams are the same as these just a different color.

Closed cell on the left, and old style on the right. That's a 12" iron skillet in the back.

Mounted up a set of th new 5.5 Double Deuce closed inner foams this weekend and they are very impressive. I was concerned because I loved the old foam CI set-up and they worked so well in the tires I like to run. I thought old Eddie had lost his mind. So I only purchased a single set wanting to give them a try first. Boy am I a believer after mounting up a set of tires, these new inner foams are spectacular. They seem to give the same contact patch feel but the lateral and vertical compression support is amazing. I think Eddie and his team of testers have taken foam to the next level. Great work Team CI. "thumbsup"

PS. I ordered more closed cell DD foams, Oh Ye of little faith. :ror:

Thank you Norm for the honest feedback. Several people thought I was nuts to ditch the original design and pursue closed cell inners. I have believed all along that this was the next step in the evolution of tire foam and soon to be tire design. The material allows both competition trucks and scale trucks to perform some amazing feats. I have received several emails and phone calls from customers who've purchased the new foam design and gone out to there local comp and win this past weekend. It's only a matter time as the new products gets out and word spreads. Thanks again Norm, for your continued support and business"thumbsup".

No planned date. Right now we are fine tuning machining practices and tolerances. More closed cell inners are arriving this week. We are suppose to get a sampling of the new outer foams in the other designs today. I have no idea what densities or sizes will be in the delivery. It's going to take some time to build up an inventory. It's all new product and designs which means the companies involved need time to get in the groove / flow.

Mine showed up Saturday while I was at our comp! Awesome shipping time Eddie, thanks so much. I mounted them all up today on some 1" SLW inside of Sedona's, what a difference in sidehilling. "thumbsup"

So what setup would you reccomend for the PIT BULL ROCK BEAST Tires. You said the 5.25 earlier on here but there are only 5.5 on the site. They are going to get mounted on some Axial XR10 beadlocks under my Wraith.

I'd be one of those "customers" and like quite a few people I was hesitant to make the change, but after numerous phone/email conversations with Eddie and getting our recent inventory order in stock I was able to get the new inners installed in several sets of my tires.

I took a 1st place this past weekend in TN running the following setup:

Narrowed Red Dot Blocks with Rover sidewalls mounted on 1" SLW's running 5.5" Narrow Inners with Medium Outers all the way around. The Medium Outers in the front might be a little too firm for most people, but this is how I prefer to run my setup...and it works "thumbsup"

I installed these in a customer's rig for this comp as well. He is running a set of my narrowed Red Dot Khaos tires with Rover sidewalls on 1" SLW's. I set him up with the 5.5" Narrow Inners with Soft Outers up front and the 5.5" Narrow Inners and Medium Outers in the rear. He said he could tell the difference immediately and really liked being able to run a softer outer foam on the front without having a lot of tire roll which was a problem with the previous style of foams. I'm currently building another set of these tires and installing the same foams for one of his other trucks...he must like them 8)

I've installed them in a set of Sedonas using Narrow Inners and Soft Outers up front and Medium Outers out back. This setup seems to work really well on 1" wheels and with a rig in the 5.5-6lb range.

Another set of tires I installed these in were my narrowed Sedonas and White Dot Blocks. I used the 5.5" Narrow Inners with Soft Outers up front in the Sedonas and 5.5" Narrow Inners and Medium Outers in the Blocks out back.

THANKS EDDIE!
