Default Norcal_GIT_r's Cliff Climber.

I recently bought a DTX Cliff Climber. This is my first crawler, so obviously I'm a rookie. But I've been wheeling in the rocks for almost 30 years in various different trucks, quads and dirt bikes.
Since I dig wheelin I figured I build a little crawling area in my back yard.
Thats done and now I have my first crawler.

Honestly I was a bit disappointed in the performance of the CC right out of the box.
It's very top heavy, it has a lot top end power that creates a lot of wheel spin. Being so fast it's hard to control at crawling speeds. I also found the RTR control very cheap and imprecise.

So I went and read through all the posts I could find here on setups and mods for this crawler.

The first mod I did was to short one of the battery lines and remove one of the batteries.
I then moved the existing batter to top of the front servo.

This helped with the top heaviness and the overpowered feeling. But now the rig felt a little under powered. I still had wheelspin and was stalling in spots.

So the next mod I did was to add the o-rings to the outer cups to lock the axles.
This helped quite bit but then I could feel the slop in the rear steer.
I then went and made 2 brass links to lock the rear steer.

Now with the rear steer locked and the rear servo removed I have a little extra grunt now and the crawler is quite pleasure to run now. It's crawling very smooth and I'm now able to pull off some technical lines I couldn't even come close to before all the mods. Overall I'm getting a lot more traction and I'm climbing and clearing all kinds of stuff.
This is what I was hoping for from a crawler. Overall I'm now very happy with my new Cliff Climber.
Now I'm just waiting for some of the add ons for it to come out.

Here's a few photos I took while wheeling through my backyard crawling area. These are actual action shots of it crawling.

Nice truck! Did it come with the Bronco body? Did you have to buy the electronics?

That's some great information. Thanks for posting the info and pics. How is the size? does it seem small? Would you please post a pic or two with something next to the crawler for size comparison? Thanks again.
