Default Mike's project "CROW"

I wanna made a scaler based on MOA axles. Simply to try something different. I like the pumkin body, so I need narrow axles. And CC axles can be made really narrow

I started with this:

First step was to disassemble whole thing and put some parts off

Made rear lock by cutting off servo posts and using axial rod ends & balls with PTI turnbuckles

Also used some tunning parts by DTX

Stock & tuned axle comparison

All tunning parts together
(DTX bearing set, DTX steel gears, Axial stub axles & shaved hexes)

Modified dogbones (axial stub axles need more space due to different design of cups)

2.2 rims for 1.9 scaler ? Why not ? (Proline 8-shooter beadlocks)
You can see weights on front wheel and went holes in place of screws

I have nice 1.9 wheels with 2.2 ProLine dirt Hawg tire
As you can see the whole axle is much narrower now

The whole thing should look like that

Nice

Mean this in a good way -
The beadlock rings almost look like 50's wide white walls, which go with the body era!

THX
I like those low profile tires. It's not so common here.

They are smaller than most of 1.9 tires

I used Rock Bashers on my recent, first, scaler build. Smallest 1.9 I found without spending a fortune.
Not the most scale looking, but they're OK, and they crawl well.

Hey, could you put a ruler in the pic both vertically and horizontally and post that in a thread called the "ultimate tire size......." in wheels and tires?
Great info!

That's a good idea. I'll try to make better snap with ruler. But I have only metric one.

Maybe I can also add this pic:

HPI Yokohama Geolandar
Pro-Line Flat Iron
Pro-Line Hammer
Tamiya Vise Crawler

Let's go ahead

I will use Czech made MIG 400 12V (3s lipo) low rpm motors (people use them in planes instead of basic 400 motor with gear reduction unit)
$6 per motor

megamotor pages

with double DSYS MD28DCR ESC (also Czech made )
These are new ones with drag brake. I like size and functionality. Easy programmable via prog card.

Motors comparison. As you can see, original motors are 400 size

Mounted on axles

Definetely post back on those motors and ESCs

1300 KV, you might be onto something.
How much are the motors?

Two ESCs, are you using a 3-4ch radio so you can DIG with it?

Just spent 20 minutes on Mega's site. Lots to make you wonder.
Nice that they carry replacement parts of every part of the motor!!

Keep us posted when you run those motors. Nice to see people trying different set ups. I really want to find a good replacement.

It's hard to get any specs of these cheap ($6) motors.
The best way is to try them

I'm gonna run it with 4PK radio, so dig is my option.

The replacement parts they have are only for premium class motors not for cheap cans. Still better than nothing.

The pages are in Czech language only, that's why I didn't post a link.
If you want you can see some pics of ESCs, prog card and light module
here

Of course you can buy any other esc, but i like support in my coutry and 2yr warranty

Some parameters of MD28DCRS:
4-12 Nixx, 2-4 Lixx
max amps 28 / peak 38
BEC 5,4V 3A

programmable (every in 4 steps): battery type, cutoff, model type, acceleration, brake, drag brake, thr curve, neutral range, max power/brake limit

What the name CROW comes from ?

The evolution wasn't easy. Finally I got chassis I wanted.
Holes for shocks are following a circle so I can easy adjust suspension as a scaler or a crawler.

I replaced shock balls with axials. The links are also from AX10.

Completed chassis

Some flex shots / this is not the maximum

I like the low CG of this rig
