^^ i hear you on that one. battery, esc, voltage. i also bought a RTR. i tried to solve it with: tekin fxr, banebots 395's, (1) 7.2 duratrax 1600 nimmer battery. i like it. runs a bit slower. has way more torque. stalls out a little lessnow i have just enough wheel speed and torque to keep crawling when before it would stall out the rear. she'll flip herself over (if the conditions and angles are just right) if the rear tires (2.2 rovers) wedge themselves.

Hopefully they actually have some torque and low speed control as these seem to be a really good solution please keep us updated.

Default 380 motor test

I got to crawl tonight with these red hawk $1.38 ea motors from tower.
for me they worked better than the 5000 stock motors.
remember I'm running with a stock dynamite 15T type speedo and a 7.2v battery with the motors wired in paralell.
the punch is great really probably to much.
so it's still a toy just faster and a little more able to crawl.
and mr rockfrog those tamiya motors must be sweet.
p.s. I had to see where is duncan BC it's on that big island called vancover?
our cruise ship stoped there in victora on the way back to SF.
I reallly like it up there in canada to bad our stay was to short.

Where can you find the rs380's, it seems that they are a vintage motor that is hard to come by?!?

So I found a different motor that I don't recall anyone trying. Its out of a parkzone f27b airplane. Its called the stryker 480. I prder a couple from the my lhs cause he said the can is the same size as a 380/400 long can which I believe the banebots are the same size. I hope these fit cause 480's sound really nice to me right now. I can't wait to see if these work good and at only $10 a piece I dont really care that much if they don't. Will let you know how they work

Thanks, I'll have to look harder then! I thought I checked both places but I think I might have found my own solution. If the strykers dont work the rs380's it is!

edit: figure what the hell, for $17shipped, I jsut ordered a set of off ebay! lol

What is clod stall?!?! With the stryker 480's I mentioned above, there is really no hints of clod stall so far but you better have steel everything. I held a tire for a second to see if I could stall it out and shredded my output shafts so I need steel outputs and cvd's.

RS380's are on the way too in case the speed of the strykers get annoying, but with my rooster I am still able to go really slow if I want to.

Yeah, that's my problem so far with the Tamiya's ... even at 7.2v and using 9t pinions ... I have too much wheel speed for true crawling. I'm perfect as a rock racer though. I think my main problem though is the craptastic MLST2 ESC I'm using ... it just has no low end control in it's programming. As soon as I decide what to upgrade to in my Creeper, I'm going to throw the Rooster crawler out of it into my CC. That should give me back the low end control I'm looking for, and a drag brake too.

Whe your RS380's come in just heat the pinions until they 'pop' off ... just be careful as they'll 'pop' across the room! And they'll be hot enough to melt carpet! They have a longer shaft than the stock motors but it still fits within the cover no issues.

So which of the 7.2 motors would be the best bet for a rock racer then? I know many of you have tried motors that ended up being too fast, which would probably work out good for me? I just gave up on the CC as a crawler and am going to attempt a racer now, for as long as the axle internals hold up that is.

I would say with built internals, cvd's, the whole nine yards basically, go with the stryker 480's! They are fast and powerful.

Otherwise I think the rs380s's might be a better choice.

Default Duratrax cc-5000 motors

I have 2 stock only used for 20 mins duratrax cc-5000 motors for sale on ebay now just look up duratrax 380 crawler motor.
I am really happy with my red hawk hobbico 380 motors running single 7.2v batt yes they are more of a rock racer speed but they suit my needs fine. So my stockers are for sale.

I've never seen a motor like that. This controller is an ESC mounted on the motor? Pretty cool, though you either need to rewire the rear motor, or flip the rear axle around to correct the rotation. Or was your "independant control" referring to a multi-channel setup for esc?
