Default CC and Delrin

Well, I have been reading this section of the forums since I picked up a CC during Tower's blow out sale. Lots of good info being put out and I appreciate all the work several people did in finding some good motors for these things. This is my take on building a CC after all the reading and playing around with mine:

1. Handmade chassis based on the Widow LP designed by John North, I think it is designed for the AX-10 but it seems to work here. Made out of Delrin.

2. Handmade Delrin links for the suspension.

3. Banebots motors.

4. Two battery packs, 6 cell on the front and a 3 cell tucked inside.

5. Clocked front axle for the steering.

6. Axial wheels and tires.

7. Stock electronics, stock gearing, stock shocks. New 3" shocks on there way (thats why there are extensions on the chassis). Plan to upgrade to metal gears as funds become available. Still rear stear at this point. Running an HS-625mg up front.

I have only had a chance to run it on the test pile at home so far but it performs much better than stock. On to the pics.

Chassis seems nice!!! But shouldn't you triangulate the upper links more?? :? Put them inside the chassis with some spacers (I'm not sure if that's the right thing to do tho!!!)

Uuuh, uh, and make some Bent links :P;)

Body posts are mounted with a 3mm stud screwed into the top of the chassis. Stud into chassis posts onto stud.

Upper links are triangulated, they are mounted on the inside with a 3.5mm spacer. It is not much but it does the trick, no axle swing. I don't see the need for bent links at this point, break over is better with this than my AX-10 with bent links.

Yeah, it does. Not sure how close it is but the drawings for this chassis have been posted on the net several times over the last year or so. Have even seen the link posted on RCC before, not sure where but it is around.

I got it from Seelye Eiler Plastics localy but I believe they will ship anywhere. I know McMaster-Carr also carries it. The cost of the Delrin (Acetal) is not such as big a deal as is the shipping depending on what size's you buy.

I have been runing Delrin links in my MRC for almost 4 months and have tested the limits of the rig with no breakage. I have not had a chance to really test the CC yet but I do not expect any problems. All the breakage I have heard about has been with tube and not rod. Overheating can be an issue too if you are making bent links.

Well, the new shocks work great but I am having some issues with the stock ESC. I am running the BaneBots motors and they seem to be overheating the ESC, has anyone else had this problem? It runs for a while and then shuts down for a few minutes and then works again till it warms up again. For now I have gone back to the stock motors till I can afford a new ESC. With that change I wanted to go back to the dual 6 pack batteries so I made a new rear battery shelf. The other issue I have with the stock ESC is that it only seems to go 1/2 power in reverse, anyone else notice this? Some pics of the rear battery shelf.

Great looking rig. Nice work with the delrin. I was thinking of the banebots but I am glad I saw your troubles since I can't afford a new ESC at the moment. Mine only does about half speed in reverse as well.

I emailed Duratrax about the half speed thing and they told me it is supposed to do that. Me thinks they did not do there homework when they designed this rig but we all know that already. Ya just gotta scratch your head sometimes. :?

Yes it is an itchy situation. There are so many design hiccups makes you wander if it was "bring your kid to work day" when they designed it. Your rig is pretty colorful!
