I just ordered a Cliff Climber... I don't know really what I was expecting from a Duratrax...but I know it was more than this. I think the only thing going for it is it's lightweight because there I no metal in it besides the body pins and screws. Do these things have any place anywhere besides bashing, breaking, and fixing? Someone from around here said they don't fit 1.9 class and the narrow axles won't do good against other 2.2. Can this thing be fixed on the cheap? Or are they a lost cause unless you like to really hack them up?

Yeah thay can be be made to compete pretty well for real cheap money. Check mine out, ita all parts I had laying around but if I had to add it all up I'd say I spent about $70 dollars including the 2.2 axial wheels and tires I have. I still have to upgrade to ESC but I'm in no real rush right now.

I think I may have to keep it around and mess with it. Yours looks pretty stout. Can it legally crawl with the other 2.2's? Or does the MOA make it not able to? I'm thinking I can use some aluminum links I had made for my clod to replace their links. Not sure what to do for a speed control yet. I have a little LRP laying around, but I don't know. I'm hoping to keep this super on the cheap. After blowing over a grand a few years ago to build my clod I'm done with that...fads change too quickly in RC's to invest that kind of money.

The cliff climber can be built to meet the 2.2 standards, but I doubt it could ever be competitive. MOA is legal and dominant in 2.2 these days by the way. I didn't get the CC to comp with. I got it to try out the MOA design, which I never owned, and just as a slightly smaller rock basher as I only run stock sized tires. Can't beat the price either.

Just to add a little fuel to the fire about the CC, here is a link to my build so you can see another take on the 2.2 crawler idea. CC and Delrin | |

If it is going to be your only rig, i.e. the one you run and want to upgrade, I would go with another. If it is just a side project, something to tinker with while you run another rig, it is fun and challenging and worth it (heck, they are hellacheap). There are a few of us that are looking for that great balance with the CC. If it weren't for a couple of gears in the pumpkins, I would think of my CC as 2.2 comp worthy easily. But without that ability, my one opened one sits on the shelf next to my unopened one...........just waiting on the day.

I think you gotta remember what these things are. The CC is an entry level, inexepensive, RTR crawler. We are lucky that they also sell the prebuilt for guys who already have their own radio stuff. If you wanted to do some hard core comping a little research would have showed you that the CC was not the way to go. If you want a cheap, fun rig, congrats you got one. If you read my thread Cliff Climber Rock Racer Style with Standard 6-Cell Stick Packs you will see why I got one and love it. I have beat the crap out of mine and have had absolutely no breakage or failures and probably should have. Like others have mentioned there are a lot of cool builds on this forum. You just gotta remember that a Datsun can outrun a Corvette with enough time and money, you just gotta decide if its worth it.
