Hi guys, my name's Kenny and I'm new tp this site. Anyhoo, my stepdad bought me a Cliff Climber yesterday and I've been running the piss outta it and I want to upgrade it/mod it. Can you guys help me? I'm getting the anodized blue bent links and the other links for the suspension from Tower and they should be here pretty soon. Oh and we're getting a 7t pinion to slow things down a bit cuz I don't like how fast it is. Other than that, it's gonna be pretty much stock. Can you guys help me out with frames and such? Can I use a 1/10 frame on this and can I use some Tmaxx shocks? My stepdad built himself, me, and my bro all Tmaxx's, all custom, they're pretty badass! Mine's blue and purple anodized aluminum, all aluminum, titanium screws and such, big .32 motor, etc. Anyhoo, back to crawling lol Can you guys help me out at all? I'd like to extend the frame and the wheelbase and such, but don't know how. Thanks a bunch.

Welcome! While im not sure on a 1/10 chassis, TCS Crawlers sells a trail chassis for the CC. These are used more for scale builds and what not. You do not have many options on chassis with the CC, and you can always trial and error with a 1/10 set up. Another thing ive upgraded on mine that you can consider is I have 2.2 wheels and 2.2 tires that are taller than the cc set up. The CC is really not that bad of a crawler, especially for a beginner which I was. Here's a pic of mine, one with the CC body and one with an F350 body I cut to fit. ![]()

You can pretty much use any chassis you want because it is MOA, just make your own links out of brakeline.

Just have a look around at all the great builds posted here, you'll find something you like. Where did you find a 7 tooth pinion from? Are you sure it is the 0.6 mod pitch rather than 32 pitch? Many of us have been looking for smaller pinions and having trouble with just 9T or 10T in the correct pitch.

Ok, thanks guys. Hey Jamus, how do you guys extend your frames? Do you just use bigger scale frames, make your own, or can you buy one? And yes, I'm sure it's a 7 tooth pinion, I'll ask my dad when he gets home later today where he found it. And I don't know about the 0.6 mod or 32 pitch, all he said was "Hey KJ, I found a 7t pinion for your cliff climber!". Anyhow, I have a 9t pinion on order right now, should be here in a couple days. When I find out about the 7t, I'll let ya guys know because I've seen a post where a bunch of you guys are looking for some 9t's. Ight, that's all I have to say right now lol

Stretching the wheelbase can be done many ways. Some make longer links, others make their own chassis, some buy specific cliff climber aftermarket chassis, and others use more universal chassis and adapt them to work. I'd love to find out about those 7T pinions, could really use a 7 and 8 or maybe a 7 and 9 in mine. I run 12/11 right now.

Ight, I'll ask him in a minute for ya, he just got home from work. I was at the fair all day riding rides and pukin' lots :( Yup, I love my Tmaxx! It's soopa fast, goes 71mph, that's the fastest I've gotten it and still control it lol. The shocks are the nicest thing on it, to me at least. I forgot what brand/style they are, but they cost us $35 each, so that's like $280 altogether? Yeah. Anyhoo, the shocks are super plush, take lots of abuse. The engine is the only bad thing. Our pull starts only last like 10 pulls before we have to replace it so we're downgrading on engine size soon and then adding a turbo to it. Hey Jamus, you know of any CLiff Climber specific chassis/frames that I can buy? And I'll post a pic or 2 when I get the info about the 7t pinion.

Yup, total so far on the Tmaxx is $1300 or $1400, I don't remeber lol. Mine is the "middle" priced one too! My bro's is around $700 cuz he wanted the stock engine and just a lil bit of looks, while my stepdad's is pretty darn expensive too, more than mine!!!! Yup, he got all the stuff from ebay and each car totalled out to those prices. If they were bought straight from the parts' manufacturers, they'd be a lot more expensive! Jamus, my stepdad forgot the site the 7t pinion is on, but when I asked him, he said that he'd found 6t, 7t, and 8t pinions all on the same site for the Cliff Climber and for the Losi MRC, both of which we have :P I have a few pics of my CC from earlier when I got bored. I added some links to it to extend it, I don't know how its going to be when it's done cuz I haven't finished it yet [duhh!] Anyhow, the read is hollow anodized red aluminum links from some brand that I don't know of, but my SD [stepdad] said they were pretty expensive, so I put those in the rear. The front, I'm going to finish that up tomorrow, have to get some more ball joint thingy's that go into the links, I ran out. Anyhoo, the front end is going to be anodized blue solid aluminum links in a smaller diameter to cut down on the weight in the front and still be pretty strong. Plus, I don't want to spend 2-3 hours more on switching the front and rear links [pain in the ass]. Anyhoo, here's a few pics of what I did and the type of batteries I'm running: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And here's one of my batteries that I run. One of 2. ![]() The links are just for right now, just to kill some time, they're pretty good, but my stepdad isn't using them for anything, so I'm taking them off his hands :P Any comments and/or suggestion are welcome!

Sorry about the crappy picture quality, it's 1:05 AM when I took those pics and I forgot how to use my camera a little bit lol That battery is a Supercharger Orion 1600, got it pretty cheap for $35, so I think $70 isn't too bad for good batteries, what do you guys think? Oh and articulation is ok I guess, I know it's not more than 70*, so I guess I'm good? I've read a bunch that you guys don't really like a whole bunch of flex/articulation. Why? Anyhoo, I just know I don't have as much as I did, but the wheelbase is definately a lil bit longer....ok, a bunch longer! lol Well, that's all for right now, I'll post more later on after I get a good 12 or so hours of sleep. Peace out.

OK Jamus, after a bit of searching, I found the pinion[s] online. I don't know if they could work, but I definately know the 9t pinion would. The ones that have less teeth look too long, but maybe I could possibly dremel them down? Anyhoo, here's the link: http://rcpcrawlers.com/product.php?p...&cat=31&page=1

Sorry to have to tell you this, but those are 32 pitch and will not work with the cliff climber.

Unless you want to keep buying engines because you are burning up pistons stay away from any forced induction. If you search youtube there are a few write ups on superchargers that are very accurate, you should check them out. Anyway, back to the CC, I cut my own chassis since noboby really sells one specigic for the cliff. But after finishing it I decided I want to try something totally different and build a tuber out of it. The best way to mod is to build or modify your own parts since the duratrax parts aren't very good. By the way heres a pic of my maxx and CC. Since you seen to like to know how much things cost theres about 2500 into the Maxx. Its an original .15 that has been streched, cut, widened, rebuilt, rebuilt again. I'm not sure how you can be running a .32 running 70+ with a plastic tranny box, stock axles and tons of heavy aluminum. You should post up some vids. I only have a ported .28 but its will only run about 47 and wheely on command.

I used to have more aluminum but its too heavy and no matter how much locktite you use the screws either fall out after 2 runs or never come out again. Heres one more Last edited by Rjohn929; 06-27-2009 at 11:03 AM.

Damn, well I had sooo much stuff written in a reply to you guys, then i got a pm from somebody on another forum, was gonna click over to that one and acciddentally X'd out of this one :( Anyhoo, yeah, my Tmaxx is pretty heavy, it doesnt accellerate really fast, but once it gets going, it goes fast! We mainly made it to jump a bit and look good while doing so lol Your Tmaxx and CC are pretty sweet! I would never spend that much moolah on something RC! But that's just me lol Damn, well Jamus, what was that one thing you were tlakin about wayyy earlier about something like the 0.6 mod or something like that? Tell me more bout that will ya??? So 32 pitch won't work, what about 48? Oh and I finished fiddling around with my CC, but since I added the longer links, my wires that run to the motors are too short, so I took the 2nd battery outta the holder thingy and put that up on the front servo and lowered the electronics plate thingy down about 1/2 inch and that seems to work ok, but it's a lil risky. What should I do? Oh and in a few days when my parts come from Tower, I'm going to go all back through my links, take them out and switch with the new ones from Duratrax. You know, the blue aluminum links, bent and straight.

Yeah, .6 mod is it's own size, sometimes called metric 48 and used in some tamiyas. Nothing else will wirk, not 32, not 48. That's why we all have had trouble finding any pinions below the stock 11T.
