Upgrading ESC's, which one?

Time to upgrade the esc and I see there are tons of different esc's out there. Which esc would work good for a scale CC with stock motors? Receiver will be the stock Tactic but I dont think I want another Duratrash esc if its going to fail out again. I also do not want to overly break my wallet. Some suggestions hopefully will help me out here. I also hope to run 1 battery but if 2 are needed that is fine too.

i also have a cc. i use the tekin fxr, you do not need to use 2 batteries, i use 1, 2cell lipo, 5000 mah, i runs for about 40 min. on a charge.

What about a good one for stock motors and 12 cells? (nimh) the cc sidewinder micro says its good for 12 cells....is this right?how about a 8 cell pack?

I'm using a MLST2 esc with a single 8cell 1200mAh pack. It's made for a dual 370/380 motor application
Downside is no drag brake but I just rigged up a mini DUD switch for the rear motor so that won't be an issue any more. With one servo it's fine ... but like most ESC's with two you'll need an add on BEC.
MLST2 ESC on the 'bay - $32 NIP shipped to Canada
UBEC $9 shipped form the 'bay
Mini DUD switch - had the parts so no cost (otherwise $1 for switch and ~$8 or less for a cheap micro servo)

newbie question.....whats a DUD switch? how does it work?

It's a small microswitch, small micro servo set on ch3 to activate it (I'm using a $20 TQ3). You don't need anything special ... the servo I'm using for it came from a Trinity itsy bitsy spider, think it cost me about $5 back in '05.
When activated it cuts the rear motor and closes the motor contacts essentially locking the rear motor to the tune of a 75% brake. dig and brake all in one ... cheaper than buting an expensive esc for my $49 basher. The switch leaves the esc contacts open so no fried electronics.
Don't worry about the newbie thing ... I just learned about it a week ago.

Gimme a minute I'll find the link.

with this and a BEC any ESC is now useful again
this is pretty much only useful for an MOA rig though (although the switch setup can be used for a bizillion different things)
