Default Good, affordable waterproof ESC?

Hello,

I am thinking of using a CC for a project, and I wanted to get a second opinion from a few CC owners.

The truck would see trail use and some crawling...just for fun, nothing serious. I want it to be mud/snow capable as well, so I am in search of a waterproof esc that can handle the twin motor setup. Wheels and tires would be similar to stock or 1.9s with a 4" OD. Batts would either be AA size or 2/3A size...two 5 cell packs. Here is what I am considering:

Mtroniks marine 25
http://www.mtroniks.net/details1.asp...r-marine25.htm

The stock DTX esc is rated at 20A continuous, 60A surge (according to towerhobbies) for up to 14 cells, so I assume the 25A esc would be okay. Would the 25 amp esc be able to easily handle the stock cc motors (wired in parallel) on 10 cells? banebots 390s (parallel) on 10 cells?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance for the input.

Traxxas EVX-2 (blue) 16.8v ESC would be a good choice.

Yes, the EVX-2 would do the job, no doubt about it. But, I was trying to find something less expensive...since the evx2 is more than twice the amount of the prebuilt CC. Any other esc's come to mind?

maybe try to find a used one?

The stock ESC is 1.5 times as much $$ as the prebuilt too.

hmmm...I never thought of a used one, I'll have to look into that. As long as I use an esc rated for 20A or more, I shouldn't have a problem though, correct?

thanks again for the input...I'll have to snoop around ebay a bit

That should be correct, but I think the EVX would be your best bet.

Your location says St. Cloud, can I assume that is MN?

I actually was in the same boat as you sns for an esc...I ended up going with the EVX2...found one for about 55 shipped and it comes prewired for dual motors and dual battery...I think it will perform the same if not better as the stock esc but this one is more reliable than the stock. Just an input. Good luck on your choice and let us know how it works!

It will perform much better than the stock garbage. I have not run it in my CC but the one I had in my Emaxx was flawless.

Slash ESC is 8-cell max isn't it? That won't cut it in these rigs.

ok forgive this question if it is stupid, but i am a bit more into this hobby for the fabrication and not the electronics. So you have a water proof esc, but aren't your motors still in danger of being damaged by the mud or snow or whatever watery substance you drive through?

i definatly see the advantages of not having to bring my rig in because it stats raining or waiting till it drys up before i can bring it out

most of the danger to electrics is the charge jumping across circuits, with a motor this is not a risk, since the motor is just a circuit a basic positive and negative going straight across a short will not damage it.
