6x6 Cliff climber build

So I know that CC's are not the best crawlers, but I did like how my comp cc climbed, so with the comp rig and stock rig that I have I decided to start a project build that I've wanted to do for years. A 6X6 CRAWLER! so heres the start of the build. Any and i mean ANY info/input would be helpful.

comp rig on right
longer rear links to spread the wheelbase out a bit-

a dirty mock up to see if I can use the stock chassis but it looks like im going to have to make one.

Plans are to build chassis to make shocks vertical space axles properly use a pickup cab only and fab up a flatbed, not sure if im going to change the electronics but it will be 6WD and 6WS.

Cool project and probably inexpensive with how cheap you can pick these up for.

kuatto 10-11-2010 10:06 PM

NIce cheap project, are you running 3 motor off of on esc?

mocnyang 10-14-2010 04:18 PM

No the front axel is on one esc the back 2 are on a seperate esc...and yes inexpensive because i traded a 1/16th slash for the 2 CC and a Axial AX10.

Why don't you go 8x8, at least i would and would like to, you already have the axle so why not just mount it up to the front? Otherwise cool build, have you made anymore progress?
nic

To simplify the frame set up,I would just run a pair of straight rails, would be much easier to set up.Also what kind of body were you thinking for the final build?

Cordwood 03-16-2011 11:53 AM

This Project dead? I have 4 extra CC axles and was thinking about whipping up a 6x6 or maybe an 8x8

nuke24 03-16-2011 02:00 PM

Yeah pretty much, 8x8 8x8 you can still save the cliff climber thread"thumbsup"

Might as well go 8x8 with 4 axles laying around. I've got too many builds going. Maybe I'll bump this one up. What do you think, 8 wheel steer?

nuke24 03-17-2011 05:50 PM

Might as well you could run the front two together using a y harness and the rear two the same way. Will you have independent steering front and back? or will they all just turn together? I toyed around with a 12x12 concept in drawings but never got around to building it, or buying more axles :lmao:. Maybe one day i will try with Rs10 axles as they are stronger and easier to get. Good luck, to bad cliff climbers have pretty much died, i always wanted them to do good. Oh well.

I haven't really put much thought into it until we just started talking about it, but I'm thinking the steering would work good as you said, with the front two axles y'd together and the rear two y'd, steered independantly. I'm sure it would steer descent with just the front 4 tires turning, but it'd be cool to be able to turn the rear when needed.

12 x 12 would be nuts. I do have 6 CC axles, but it would require dismantling my kids functioning CC.

Long live the Cliff Climber!!!

nuke24 03-19-2011 10:38 AM

It will be cool no matter what you decide on, i wouldn't dismantle your kids one unless they want a 12x12 :ror:
Good luck

It's on my to-do list. I need to wrap up a maxx super that's almost done, then get started on a 1/6 F350 project, and then I'll start on this. I was just planning to cut out a quick cutting board frame, make some quick delrin rod links and at least get it to roller status.

kuatto 04-01-2011 10:25 AM

Cool, looking forward on seeing it done, have a couple here.
