Default Can you get a good charger for ~$100

I would like a charger that has lipo capabilities, higher cell count nimh capablities, and gives me some info.

I think it would be nice to know what voltage, and mah, my batteries are putting out before and after charging.

Is this possible with something in the one hundred dollar range?(give or take a few bucks)

thanks

This is what I have. $99. It charges 2 bats at a time. NiMh, NiCad, or Lipo.

I bought a Triton Jr (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXMAH9&P=ML) and hooked it up to a spare computer PSU ($10-$30 new)

Does up to 14 cell nimh/nicad, does lipo and lead acid, and it's really easy to use. It also has no fan, so it's quiet, and if I want to charge two at once, I can just get a second (or third) charger and power them all from the PSU. If you use a semi-decent one like I am, powering 3-4 of these chargers at once won't be a problem. If you go high-end, you can easily power 10+ at once.

The only downside to it that I've noticed is that it discharges at a max of 1 amp, but I prefer to discharge my batteries with my trucks anyway. :P

I use a ICE charger. A little more than a $100 but well worth it.

I have 2 triton jr's and an ICE, I love the jr's they work great and do all types of batteries. 2 bad things are they will only charge for an hour then you have to restart them, and they only discharge at 1amp. I hate the ice, it false peaks worse than any charger I have ever had.

For less than one bill,I'd look at these.....

Hyperion 5idp Battery Charger (old version)

Hyperion 5idp Battery Charger

Hyperion 5i AC/DC

For a bit more,I'd look at this.....

Hyperion EOS0606I AC/DC Charger

I use the Hyperion EOS0606I AC/DC Charger and love it. Works awesome!

That hyperion 5i ac/dc looks like a lot of charger for the money.

Is there any big reason to spend more on a charger than that?

Keep in mind, I don't race. Mainly crawling, and I'm starting to get into bashing. I just want a better way to charge/monitor my batteries.

thanks for the help. It's appreciated.

The only reason to spend more on a charger than $100 is if you need to charge huge lipos or have balancing and an power supply integrated. Otherwise $80 to $100 can get you a very nice and small charger.

Rather then creating a duplicate thread, was wondering if anyone can update this thread to any newer chargers available that would be great for under a bill. TIA..!

Could I ask a question related to the topic: Is there a must need to balance a LiPo pack? With the chargers listed under a $100, it seems as if they are not made to balance, but maybe that is not completely necessary for a crawler? Some education would be appreciated.

I noticed that maxamps sells the Hyperion EOSO4031 Lipo Balance/charger for $80 and the EOSO606i for 109.99 that does NIMH, NICD and Lipos for $110 I would really like to have a AC/DC charger though with out the higher price tag of $150.

Balancing is a very good idea. Most lipo packs are not matched, so cells can get out of whack. A balancing charger will fix it and allow the pack to last longer.

You won't find many balancing AC/DC chargers for under $140 unless you get a cheap one from China. $100 for a good charger, and $40 for a good power supply is about normal. $140 ac/dc 0606i- http://holmeshobbies.com/product.php...5&cat=7&page=1

i was in the same market, i spent the extra $40 and got the hyperion 0606 ac dc and i have only got a chance to use it once so far but it seems to be an excellent charger, charge anything, discharge cycle, and a cycler that will charge/discharge your batteries automatically. or if you already have a power supply, get the dc only version for around $100

What about the Duratrax Onyx 230 or Super Brain 977 chargers? Are they any good?

Not really. Generally duratrash and superbrain are of low quality... The 977 had alot of issues. Go with a hyperion or Elite charger and you wont buy another for a long time.
