IF you run a seperate BEC and bypass the Rooster BED, you can run a 3 cell LiPo. ESC voltage ratings are based on the BEC, and Roosters is weak. I run a 3 cell on mine with a CCBEC, no problems whatsoever.

BEC means battery eliminator circuit, which means you only have to run one battery, instead of a battery for motor, and a battery for servos.

CCBEC is the Castle Creations BEC, a standalone unit that is used to provide your servo's with plenty of power.

BED is I have no friggin idea, I think possibly typo?

I would NOT run the 8 cell pack, let alone a 3cell lipo on the rooster crawler, those specs are there for a reason, I'm guessing that during product testing, they were smoking them on 8 cells.

BlueMonster, you say the Rooster has a weak BEC, but it happens to be one of the strongest built in BEC's on the market today. I think you are confusing it with the Castle Mamba Maxx.

okay google is starting to help

i got this 1900mah 7.4v lipo pack already so i f i ran that then i wouldnt even need the BEC correct?

but if i run my nimh 8 cell split pack (more voltage) then id want to run a ccbec. right?

and if i wanted even more runtime and juice then i could get a 11.1V 3200mAH 3 Cell LiPo, and run the ccbec inline.

so if im running the 3 cell lipo and the ccbec. i plug the lipo battery into the ccbec and i plug the ccbec into what the reciever or the esc cause my power switch is coming off the esc. or will i need to run an inline switch?

You are probably right, I run them all and confuse them once in a while. BED was a typo, meant to say BEC, lol.

Some good reading here...

I would just run that dynamite 7.4volt lipo, no external bec nessisary, and it is nice and light.

Again, I personally WOULD ADVISE AGAINST 3 CELL LIPO OR 8 CELL NIMH.

but thats just me, I like my electronics.

well the less stuff i have to buy the better. is their a significant weight difference between the dynamite lipo pack and the 7 cell nimh split pack i got now thats mounted low on the axle

LiPo will definitely be lighter.

for anyone who cares: the lipo's are significantly lighter!

one elite 1500 sub c battery specs are below and the total weight of a 7 cell pack would be 160.65grams.
The whole 7.4v 1900mah Li-po is just 80 grams.

Lipos are nice.

I've been running 8 cell nimh on my Novak Rooster (it's the one just before they revamped it and came out with the Crawler and 12T versions....prolly 6 years old) and NO PROBLEMS AT ALL> BTW, it's also rated at max 7 cells (8.4 volts).

If you already have the nimh...run it mounted on the axle...it's heavier but it's lower than a lipo will mount and the weight is on the front axle which is good. Too light or too heaby is not good.

thanks,
I would not run over 7 cell, unless your just trying to see how much it will take before it smokes. It might work for alittle while but i wouldn't push it.
