| Two brand new 60t Atlas sound and run very differently...any advice ?
I noticed that the two 60t motors are quite different to each other ,one sounds strong and about the same pitch going backward as forward but the second one sounds like its really struggling when in reverse and forward it sounds crappy and gutless . ...could there be something wrong with this motor or is it normal for low RPM motors to sound very different to each other? Check the brushes, make sure they are not hung up or cocked to one side. Also compare the two. Maybe one of them has the timing off.

Id pull the "weak" motor apart and check for bad bearings or bushings. Make sure there is nothing in the can that shouldnt be there, (leftovers from the manufacturing process) and then lube it up real well. Also inspect the windings / com for anything that might be suspect. Maybe a cracked wire, pitted com surface, anything. Look at the brushes for pits, or anything weird. Assemble it with 0deg timing. Then if its all good, do the same to the other. If nothing looks out of place, id say run them. If the "weak" motor isnt performing like the other, call the company. Maybe a can magnet lost some magnetism, or didnt get fully magnetised. If they are new, they should return / replace it for free. Ive had a motor with a dead magnet, and it sounded familiar to what you are describing. In an old racing Clod i had running 2 Trinity D3 10ts. I let the truck sit for a long time and when i fired it back up, the front motor seemed to have 300% power over the rear. I tore down the motor, and the rear motor felt very smooth to turn while assembled, instead of the noticible steps like the front. I sent it back to Trinity and they sent me a pair of new D4 cans, since the D3 cans werent around anymore. |
