Default Mamba Max no drag brake with brushless?

I just called castle creation about mamba max with my drag brake problem. They told me that I need to use a brushed motor in order to
have drag brake that can hold the truck on a hill. Can someone confirm this?

My current setup is
TXT-1
airtronics M8
MM ESC with 7700KV
100% drag brake (no effect the truck rolls on a flat surface)
50% brake
Reverse : 50%
Start Power: high
Motor timing : normal
Cut off: none

The dragbrake is a lot stronger on my brushless than on my brushed truck. But I also run a 1000KV outrunner.

Castle is probably advising you in a typical application, bashing, not crawling.

Change your brake and reverse from 50% to 100%. That might help. I've got all mine set at 100%. You can also adjust the brake curve up a little to either hit quick and hard or gradually apply the brake.

When my outrunner is in,there's been times I've had the throttle pegged and then release to neutral, never touching reverse, and the brake hit so hard it's flipped itself over. Kinda funny when goofing around the yard but it's cost me a few points in comps before. It's gotta be near verticle for it to run off.

I've noticed a few brushed motors that wouldn't brake as hard as others or my outrunners. I think it's mainly due to weaker, poor quality magnets.

Yeah, if you can't crawl over the object, ramp over it!

Reset it and download the new software from their site

just installed mine

MM
BM16 brushless
brakes pretty well
70% brake
think there's another drag in there-(forget)
50% reverse
normal
Adjusted the brake curve and throttle

Pretty amazing

I just got it and have not tuned it so it does not quite hold on a hill

raptorman i tried ur setting and it seem like it's a little harder to push the truck on a flat surface, but it still will not hold on a incline.
Could it be my motor just doesn't have the holding power?

thanks guys for helping out a n00b here.

Its your motor, an inrunner won't hold as good as an out runner, and good god why are you running a 7700kv motor in a crawler. Get a bm-9 or bm-16 and that will hold vetter than a brushed motor will. A bm-16 in a clod is almost to much to turn the tires by hand, it will for sure hold the truck.

I have a mamba max 6900kv in my basher, It's the fastest car I have driven.

I can't imagine a 7700kv in a crawler???

You either need a high turn brushed motor, or a low KV outrunner for crawling.

Unsensored Inrunners don't have a lot of poles. So at low speeds it will roll catch roll catch for drag brake.

Bought the 7700kv set cause it was the only set on ebay for $180 shipped. The 7700kv motor was actually intend for the F201, but i wanted to try out the esc's drag brakes first.

Search ebay < shaft dia* brushless > with "Search title and description" checked, between $30 - $60. A lot of motors to browse but there sure are some good ones hidden there. Look for motor diameter larger than 28mm. Larger dia. motors have larger dia. stator which gives you stronger torque. 38mm dia brushless will give you much higher holding torque/any torque than brushed. kv definately no higher than 1500. I bought my gem for $46. A chinese imitation of Hacker A30-8XL (38mm dia) Lower speed torque was as strong as real A30-8XL Only shortcoming was high rpm region which crawlers barely use. Very happy with it.

Default MMAX Drag Brake ??

I just installed my Mamba Max paired to a Novak 55t brushed motor (max was a smokin' buy at $100, but came with the 5700k motor) and I have played with the settings left and right and still have virtually no drag brake. Can anyone help?? Also, is there a way to use the 5700k and dial the power down or the curve settings to make it practical? Thanks in advance...

as for drag break not working, reread through this thread, I think they answered that one about 40 times.

given the fact that I did read through and tried those things, that is what led me to ask again...Quite possibly, others may have found tweaks that worked better seeing as how there may have been firmware updates or just settings that didn't work. HHHHMMMM, last time I checked, that is the purpose of a forum. I did read, didn't see anything that helped, so I asked. Thanks and have a nice day! Oh, and I tweaked the break curve drastically and managed to find a setting that is much stronger...
