Default HiTec 5955 in an RTR

I am really looking at getting a new servo for my RTR but i want to know if i should go with the 5955 or the 5995? What are the advantages of each and will the work with the electronics that I have already? i currently have a rooster and a 70t integy motor....and the stock transmitter and controller....

Thanks everyone

No because it's a digital servo and you don't have a radio to support it.

The 5995 is discontinued.

Like 2JSC says your radio isn't good for the 5995 since it is a 180 degree rotation servo. You need endpoint adjustments.

The 5955 is a standard 90 degree rotation so it should work.
What Rooster do you have? If it's a Rooster Crawler then it'll drive that servo fine, if it's an original Rooster then you need a CC BEC.

I actually have not used the 5955 yet, I just bought one for my comp 2.2. I have used the 5998TG for years and have quite a bit of time on my 5995, I have had nothing but good luck with both servo so far so I would expect the same from the 5955.

I buy all my electronics from either www.holmeshobbies.com or www.tcscrawlers.com.

I have run my 5955 with a rooster crawler and it worked fine. Now running cc bec with better results. I don't know for sure but you might fry it without epa adjustment's on your radio. But i'm sure you will upgrade that soon too.

Noob here...I'm trying to find this out without asking, but I am unclear. I have a Scorpion RTR. Will the Hitec 5955 work with my stock setup, or not? If not, what is the path of least resistance to get it to work? I'm wording it this way as I don't necessarily want to go with the cheapest solution. Eventually, I plan on upgrading everything worthy of upgrading.

Thanks, and this is a GREAT forum!

I have the 5955 mounted to my 2.2 currently and LOVE IT

it was turning moab XLs on my TXT and it did wonders but I did burn one up(most likely a faulty servo, bad egg in the dozen)

so I tell you like I keep telling everyone .... look into the JR servos... I heard good things and seem to believe they are better

I know the top of the line JR has more OZ/Tq for the same price as the 5955.... sure wish I would have know this when I ordered my 5955s

There are a couple key point to remember about using any high end servo so that you don't break parts or burn up the servo.

If your radio has endpoint adjustments (EPA's) for the steering, then you just need to set the EPA's so that the servo stops turning just as the axle's steering reaches it's limit.
I usually set my EPA's to something like 80 for both left and right. Hold the axle in the air, then I run the steering to the left and increase the EPA until I see the steering has bottomed out.
Then I let it center, turn it left again and see where it is. I increase the EPA a little if needed. Once I am sure the servo is pushing right to the limit of the steering, I back the EPA off a little so that the servo is not putting any pressure on the steering linkage. Then I repeat for the right side.

If you don't have EPA adjustment on your radio you will need to play with steering link lengths and servo horn lengths to get the same results.

The basic idea is that when you hold the steering full lock turn in either direction, you want the servo to stop moving before anything else stops it from moving.
The quickest way to burn up a digital servo it to hold it at full lock turn and have it fighting against the steering limit on the axle.

that is so funny you say 80 because I think set my EPA on my 3PM to 80 last night, it seemed to just hit the axle lock to lock perfectly and the servo didnt give the annoying whine like it does if you dont set EPA.

I wouldnt ever run a no EPA radio after having this 3PM
