Winch On ESC???

Alright, i have one of the Stephan's Scale winchs on the way and for $200 I am not about to try something weird till I get opinions. I tried the search to see if I could find someone that has done it with no luck.

Here is what I want to do:

I have a nice little brushed ESC from my old Cox warbird (than plane is DEAD and gone,lol). Its an ELE ESC for running 130 class brushed motors so I know it can handle the load. BUT......

Is it possible to do????? I know I would need to cut the RX Power wire coming from it obviously. Everything I know says YES, but its a expensive part on the line if I am wrong. Also, running on my DX3, so I believe by what I have read with it and here that much will work.

This might have been a stupid question, but with that kinda money and a HARD to get part, I want to make sure BEFORE I EVEN THINK OF TRYING IT.
