| It is almost there aside form a motor, batteries, charger, radio etc. Here is where I be: MM, BEC, 5955, 225 - maybe. I am buying a DX3R, and both lipo and saddles. I want to be able to play in many conditions. So, I come to you all after reading a ton about Cobalts. I emailed HH a few minutes ago and will ask you all the same. I want wheel speed with great low end response. If need be I want to move my apartment off of the foundation, but be able to do it very slowly and controlled. Money is no issue. (within reason) Do I go for a traditional 55t Hand wound, or the like? Or do what i think is right and go with a Cobalt? I see that they are releasing in a couple of days for HH. But, I see no 5T or 10T listed on their for sale? Are you all getting your 5/10's from HH as well? I understand entirely the winds on motors and how they work. But, I have only cared about that in track cars and stadium trucks that hit 60 mph, not 5 mph. Is there really a noticeable difference in these different winds at these speeds? Like I said, I want to run both LiPo and saddle. I just want the best option the first time I do it. I have entirely upgraded my drivetrain for hopefully anything I can throw at it. thanks, Jon |

| i'm running a 7t cobalt puller and it is great. i also have 40t motors from team brood racing in my clod. they offer plenty of wheelspeed and torque and a better run time than the cobalt motor |

| I have said it before, the Holmes Hobbies Cobalt Puller is the best crawling motor ever made. It offers great low speed control, stump pulling torque, and good wheelspeed. I'd recommend a 7T Cobalt, I have a 10T as well and while I love it, the 7T offers more wheelspeed with similar low speed control. The wheelspeed difference is quite noticable, especially when you get to 11+ volts. Yes, the 5Tand 10T also came from Holmes. |

| And another hand holder - what pinions should I be looking for with this motor and the Axial trans? I was thinking around 14, 15, 16, etc? |

| I debated the same thing Doc, to Cobalt or not to Cobalt. I have seen them first hand and I agree with Griz. I personally run a plain 45t integy in both my comp rig and scaler with a 9c 2/3a packs. I have more than enough wheel speed. The main reason I did not go with the cobalt is the broken parts!!! I have seen guys twist and snap maxx shafts with them! I know I am heavy on the throttle also! They are the smoothest slow control and insane wheel speed that I have seen in one motor. If you do get one, make sure you buy drive train parts |

If you are so worried about the motor you could get a Holmes Hobbies Handwound 35T. It's a great motor as well, just not as much torque and less wheelspeed. Quote:
I'd start with 87/16 gearing.

| Ah hell, I just ordered it. I'm not skurd, lol. I have upgraded my drivetrain except for the shafts. Will do that soon though. Once the chromoly lockers come, my drivetrain will be bulletproof. I even have the clutch as the extreme backup piece. So, I did ask before on the pinions. The stock 48p 87t spur will need what pinion for this motor. I was just going to buy 12-16t's and experiment. What is the consensus on these motors and gearing? I have read through a bit but was curious. Thanks again all. Edit: Damn Griz, you answered before I wrote this, lol. So, your recommendations for gearing are great. What aftermarket spurs do you suggest? I have the VF Dig, and will be doing the driveshaft mods so they will be thicker? | I think the best you can get is the Kimbrough ones. I picked mine up at the S. Hobbytown, last time I was in there they had a pretty good selection. |

I can't recommend a spur other than I think Kimbroughs are good. I have converted both my Axial trannys to use Traxxas slipper clutches. The Traxxas slipper is cheaper and spurs are super easy to find.

| Well, thankfully something was wrong in my order so I called JRH. Left a message and he called back really fast. He left a message so I called really fast, lol. Great guy with loads of wisdom for a noob like me. I am more than confident now about the 7T finding a home in my crawler. Apparently I had ordered the last one too!!! Can't be too disappointed with that. Thanks John. He stated that the stock Axial spur is fine with the stock pinion. So, all I need to do is play and figure it all out. Thanks for all the feedback guys. Now, anyone wanna lend me a DX3R for the Colorado comp?!? LMAO Yeah right. |
