Default How to test my ESC?

My Crawler has been down for about 7-8 months due to school work, school comps, and work. I am in the proccess of getting it up and running again but my Novak Rooster is giving me some problems. I am trying to set it up with the same TQ-3 that I had before with no luck. While holding the "one touch set up" button waiting for the led to turn solid red so that I can set the throttle in the foward postion the led never turns solid red again. I tried switching crystals, batteries receivers, and controlers but nothing seems to bring this thing alive. When I turn the ESC on the led lights up red and stays red untill I press the set up button.
I lost the original directions that came with the rooster so I am using the one off of Novaks site.

The ESC was working fine when I put it in its box 7-8 months ago. Am I doing something wrong or is it the ESC flipping out on me?
Can someone compare the directions on Novaks site to the original directions that come with the ESC?
