Exclamation *CKRC 3s lipo mysteriously discharging*

I unplugged my lipo last night after running only to plug it in today and find that my voltage (the pack was freshly charged last night) was at 8.4 volts which is under the 3v per cell cutoff, I am positive that nothing was plugged into the battery and it was just sitting there for a day. these lipos seemed awfully cheap in the first place and I am skeptical of the 100% quality inspection these batterys go through.

Is there any way to revive my battery safely? I am using a thunder power 610 with the included balancer

Also, I am wondering if the minor pressure created by the fastening strap I use did anything, this is a picture of the worst looking side of the battery-

You can try at your own risk charging it at .1a until it is over the safe cutoff, then charge at .5 and watch it to make sure it does not swell. Your charger may not allow this though. Do they have some sort of guarantee? I have never purchased anything there.

I set the charger to 1 or 2 cell, hit it at 1 amp for about 2 minutes, then change it back to 3 cell, hook up the balancer, and continue. All you have to do is get the packs voltage above 9v if the pack is not damaged.

This is how I do it but try it at your own risk.

Did you try contacting them about it? I've never dealt with CKRC, but I bet they'll take care of you. With that one cell being misshapen like that, I wouldn't personally try to charge it. Also, I've used straps to hold my lipos down as long as I've used them, and had no problems yet.

yes, I just now contacted them. I don't really think the strap marks have anything to do with it, I have seen worse looking lipos that work fine

yeah, that's what I was thinking, so what caused the overdischarge?

It's entirely possible at some point you over discharged the battery. Most the time the batteries will snap back from a over discharge, but sometimes a single cell in a pack does not come back. If you are not using a lipo cut off, or if your lipo cut off is not working properly or you drive through the cut off, it might have over discharged. If you've ever had a "gone dead" feeling while driving your truck you've ran it down past it's safe level.

I have done it myself with pretty nice batteries. I wrecked a two week old flight power pack by running it into the lipo cut off several times. One cell no longer holds a load.

Also bad cells can happen, despite a companies best efforts. A cell can pass a quality inspection and 90 days later fail. Like all other battery manufacturing in the world, lipos suffer post service failure to a small percentage of users. It sucks, but most companies have a reasonable guarantee. If it's a ultra cheap lipo, suck it up and buy a new one.

so what you are saying is that you aren't supposed to run in to the cutoff?, instead, just stop driving when you notice a decrease in power, right? I have been running all my batteries to the cutoff, is this why this one failed?

Most likely you did not over discharge the pack. I run lipos in all 3 of my rc's and don't use the esc lipo cut off. When the rc loses power the battery is drained simple as that, with the lipo cutoff enabled the esc always shuts down before the power loss as long as its set right. If your rig did not lose power before you unplugged the pack and you cant bring it back to life it was probably a bad cell. CKRC is a great store and they will take care of you either way
