Default 2-Ways to wire an EVX?

I just recently purchased a clod crawler off e-bay (never do that again) and I've had to rebuild the whole thing. One thing I noticed was how the EVX was wired. I know you can cross the + & - on the left side and run just one battery, but this had the + & + hooked together going to the battery with just one -. This rig still has stock motors. Would the motors have something to do with the way it is wired. Anyhow, just looking for feedback on the pros and cons of this wiring. Oh, and would the wiring change if I go to lathe motors down the road? And yes, I'm a fawkin newbie to rc crawling but not to 1:1 crawling.

there is no pro to the way he had it wired.it is wrong.the wiring wouldn't change unless you don't want to crawl with it and use 2 batt packs

THANKS, I plan on rewiring it then and just running one battery. All I have are basic 1800 because I only have a basic charger. I plan on fixing that problem soon with gp3300's and a good charger. Any suggestions on a good charger that won't kill my bank account.
