Question switch wiring for power, do u switch - or +

I use to know this,
When you need to run a switch to power up something and dont want both leads switched . Do you run + Positive to the switch or - Negative and run the other direct to battery ?

I was worried about battery drain or effect on electronics leaving a constant +
so there is no effect at all ?
