Lowest generally works best for outrunners when crawling. The higher you set it the faster it will want to start.

Does the timing change start up only?
Does timing make a outrunner motor faster or have more torque?

I am using a Holmes CrawlMaster 1000KV brushless outrunner in a 2.2.
Gearing is 15 pinion 96 spur
Mamba Max ESC
3S Lipo
With the 96 tooth spur it is almost as smooth as brushed. The torque is insane. I am trying to fine tune the set up and I was just curious about what program settings I could fine tune, such as the timing. I currently have the timing programmed normal.

if your timing is to low (soft) motor and esc will heat up faster and the efficiency is lower
the high switching frequency is more importnt for a smooth startup
thats why the quark esc starts smoother as the castle esc

So if I am understanding you correctly, you are saying;
* Low timing = faster build up of heat and lower motor efficiency (I assume the outrunner will perform poorly?)

* High timing = smoother startup (does it have any other benefit other than start up?)

- If I were to switch the timing setting in the Mamba Max from normal to high what will happen?
- What would happen if I changed it from normal to low?

I have been searching and reading through the forums the last fews days and have not found a clear answer on the subject (at least one I understand). I am trying to understand how the timing effects the outrunner and what benefits high/low timing has on a outrunner.

With the current firmware on the Mamba Max, the 96/15 gearing, and 3S lipo, my crawlmaster starts fantastic and has good wheel speed. It will start even rolling backwards on a steep incline. I do not have any complaints, I would just like merely trying to understand how the timing effects the outrunner in order to fine tune it for maximum power, torque, wheel speed and efficiency.
