Paypal locked up and loaded starting tomorrow waiting on the email. Does the 540s stand for stubby or short?

What's the difference between the 550 and 540? I'll be running it in a shafty "super" with mad force axles, axial or summit trans and 40 series ROK loks

You only looking at the 550 size? We have stock of the 540 and 540-S, sold about 30 today so somebody is finding them in stock.

If I use cheat mode in the MMP, What is the most advance for the stubby recommended?

Haha exactly what I was doing. Now all is well. Ordered a 540 but was debating on the S.

Size, weight, efficiency and torque.
550 is longer, heavier, stronger and more efficient.
540 is probably better suited for your needs since it's lighter and powerful enough.

I ordered a Stubby for my own crawler. Lighter is better for a shafty!

The only modification I would make to your statements is the efficiency. Since most crawlers average an amp or two during a battery pack, the 540-S will actually be the most efficient since the no-load losses are lowest. But at higher amp draws the larger motors become more efficient, so at 20 amps the 550 will have highest efficiency of the three. But we are talking about a very small change to runtime, more of a discussion point than real world application issue.

Honestly the 550 is way overkill for anything I've tested it in and the 540 is still over the top, which is why we didn't get more 550 motors made yet. The 540 has 150% more active rotor area than a four pole like a ROC412! But seeing as how the 540 is lighter than a regular brushless 540 by 1.5 ounces or more, it's no problem to throw one in and have torque overhead AND weight savings.

In the end the only "wrong" application would be a 540-S put into an overgeared 15mph tow rig. It would run hot and have less than stellar efficiency although still far better runtime than a brushed motor. The final word is that you really can't go wrong otherwise, even the 540-S put into a Wraith on 3s has no problems with heat or torque @ stock gearing.

I only recommend smart mode. There is no reason to use a sensored only mode, and your efficiency will suffer doing it. I would recommend smart mode with 10 degrees of sensorless timing at first. If you want more wheelspeed, get it with taller gearing. It is practically impossible to overgear these things unless you are at 30/60 and trying to wedge it in rocks.

Hey John Robert, just ordered the s540s stubby for my C2 rig with 4.75 tires. She weighs in at 5lbs....

Can you confirm that the choice was wise or should I order another motor ?

It will be a fine choice for you, the Stubby will toss a 5lb rig around like a rag doll if you give it judicial amounts of throttle.

JRH, any thoughts on running the 540-Stubby motors in Super Bully axles? For a super class rig with tires from 7-8" tall? What ESC/ESC's would you recommend for that kind of setup with the 2 brushless outrunners?

Hey i am having some issues with my used revolver s in an earier post. So i put my motor back in with out the sensor wire in smart mode and it crawled very well just like it did with my other esc i assume the sensor wire must of not been plugged in on the esc because it crawled the same with mmp with out sensor wire. So there is some thing up with the sensors for sure i will see if HH can fix

For anybody who has one of these how is the drag break because its insane running unsensored hope it s the same sensored. I am running a tekin 13.5t and it doesnt hold well

Mine is missing too. The snap ring groove is a good distance away from the bearing inner race. Is there supposed to be some sort of bushing there also?

Guys these motors do not have clips or shims. LOL

Trust me. It's fine. And makes cleaning a breeze.
