JH could you give me an idea on how I should set my gen2 up for the stubby? I just got it installed and it works great with my settings I had for the roc412 but I read that I should set timing. I was running profile 1 with locked spec mode. Thanks. This motor is awesome.

^^ I'd also be interested in knowing if I can chage any settings to better the performance of my 540 s.

+1 on the stubby performance in a Wraith?

"Performance" is too vague.
A Stubby won't be able to provide the same top speed at a given voltage and geared for maximum speed. It's an academic isssue unless you're using it as a FoFF.
If the Wraith is used as a trail rig or crawler the Stubby is more than sufficient.

This motor is built specifically for a trail crawling rig. I'm running an rs gen2. And will give my settings when I'm able to better test my rig. Right now it's set at 90% DB, brake set at 50 since drag is high. C1 throttle settings with 10* timing boost. 0 push control.
Default rpm settings.

The stuby is a great scale competition motor on lighter Rigs. I don't consider it a "basher" motor.

If you want out of control 20+ mph then I would not get the stuby.

revolverS in the rc4wd motor tranny combo-

my thoughts are: not enough torque for low speed crawling with the stock RC4WD pinion gear given. I am going to try to find the smallest pinion gear and see if that makes an improvement. The full size however would probably be terrific in this application. WOT runs are crazy fast for a scale truck

What is your gearing. I am surprised you stated not enough torque. Mine creeps not even geared low.

Like I had said previously, it is a 10:1 trans with the supplied 14t pinion. I am running OD gears up front and UD gears in the rear. Total I am somewhere right around 30:1 final drive ratio.

2Yea something is wrong. I am running 33:1 with 2.2 tires. Creeps great. Enough torque to break parts. And decent wheel speed. Not super fast but plenty.

Are you sure your in sensored mode. Can you hear the crackling this motor makes? If the motor chirps it's not running in sensored.

I have a friend running the exact same set up as you except for the tires. Same engine case and all. He said it's got plenty of torque. That is why I think something is up?

thanks for the info, I will bring it all inside tonight and double check the settings! (I know it needs some serious braking added!)

guys like you are a huge help on this forum~

No problem.

I do think something is up. Be great if you could post a vid or something? Because braking also should be pretty decent. Mine at 100% holds pretty well.. If you are at full throttle and let off the gas and have traction it will flip over forward.

Ive recently put my stubby paired with a mmp in my 2.2 s rig. Gearing is at 87/14 on 4s. Awesome motor all in all but noticed 2 issues which i will try to explain. First is when im pushing into a climb and needing alot of torque it seems as though the esc shuts off for a second and comes back on after a second. Seemed to be worse when firing it up from cold. Second is attempting to right itself from being upside down doing quick forward and reverse transitions after a few of them the motor would seem to internally free spin with no rpm to the wheels. Stopped testing at that point for now. I have the mmp at 0 timing, smart mode and changed the throttle curve which made the low end control as if not better than my brushed motor. I thought the esc stalling was a battery supply issue so went from a maxamps 430 4s pack to a 860 3s pack and no difference. So wondering if anyone has ideas...

The esc shutting off should have nothing to do it the motor.

i have not had the issue with forward and reverse. I am not using smart mode and I run 10 degree timing.

Adding some timing is good. Outrunners generally like it a lot because of the high switching frequency combined with the general design properties!

(Realize that the ESC "see" the Stubby not as a 2,000Kv motor, but an 8,000Kv 2-pole. The 540 is even worse in this respect...)

The rspro doesn't like the 540 with timing, disabling all timing helped my full throttle pulsing issues.

Well 10 degrees timing is too much it caused heat on 2s 56/17 No heat before. Going to back it off. And try again.
What is pulsing?

It felt like a radio issue at first, as if you were to pull the trigger to full throttle and let go in set intervals... Similar to a slow abs setting. After going over all radio settings and isolating esc/motor I disabled timing then it went away. Been fine for close to a year now, lukewarm temps after 3-4hrs at a time.

For the amount of torque without timing, it's unneeded imo.

Thanks. Ill give those settings a go. The esc rebooting issue is still a head scratcher.
