Ye Haw!! First try and it worked! I had to guess on which termination was which, since I couldn't follow the wiring fully on the motor. I even tried it on my novak Goat just to be sure. First try, what luck! Now to tell manufacturers what to make me, cause they didn't have a clue how to do it otherwise.

How small of a motor can we use? My first motor is a 3008 with a 3016 end bell for extra magnet length so the sensors can hang over and have something to read. The startup speed is still a bit faster than a brushed motor as the field voltage must be high enough to break the hold of the magnets. Slow speed is much better than sensorless though, there is no beep and start jerk crap. Vid once I get it tidy and mounted in a vehicle. Gonna take a few more days, already spent 2 hours on this today.

Nice work!

Are the sensors going to be sturdy enough to run them on a MoA setup? In case i bang one on a rock. Sign me up!

That is great. Are those the digikey sensors that you ordered? ...Do you mind if I give you a call after I get my parts in, what is the best time to reach you.......

thanks

That is so awsome. This is going to be revolutionary for crawler motors.

Still have more research to do. I am seeing if the design can be changed a bit. The magnets are so strong that there is still a bit of a jump at the start. What we need is weaker magnets, in a sense. Maybe wave wound stators. More details to come as I throw it into a rig.

What I want is a 6 ounce 3000kv outrunner with sensors.

What kind of esc are you using? Im guessing the novak goat esc? Im not aware of many sensored esc's for crawling.

The Tekin RS. Fully programmable, full drag brake, brushless, brushed, do all ESC with a sensor harness. Used a novak too but it isn't as programmable.

Hi John

Very Very cool project.

Can you draw a simple electrical schematic (???) showing the hall sensors and how they are connected to the ESC.

More pics would be great too.

Can I buy the Tekin RS ecs from you?

how you going with this

i could really use this, got a 3800kv outrunner in a scaler, love to have low speed on that

I haven't had a chance to do more testing yet, but it is on the agenda. I am working with a factory to produce a hybrid, something with less magnetic pole attraction but very high torque.

If you look in the Roar Racing rules, the sensor pinout is in there.

John, would more sensors help in the jerkiness of the start up?

No it would not. The startup jerk is because the poles have high attraction to the magnets, it is a function of the slot/magnet ratio. It takes some force to get the motor spinning basically. I am working on a different design right now. It may end up being an inrunner, but a high pole count inrunner to have much higher torque at low speeds as compared to currently available sensored inrunners.

How about a stator built with some twist in it instead of the poles lined up in straight lines
