With the 56/16 gearing I am at 3.5:1, Im wondering if that was too high and it got hot? I am clueless on it. My slipper wasnt set super tight, running a Robinson Racing slipper unit for a wraith.

Can you send it in for warranty?

I already emailed Holmes to ask about that, will get it pulled out sometime this weekend.

Yeah go the other way. Volt up gear down. Don't forget that. Always start out small on the pinion and bring it up after you confirm everything is safe.

Yesterday with 20 min of bashing with even higher gearing (56/17) it was warm but I could still touch the motor. I brought the gearing down to 56/16 today as I knew it would still have the speed I wanted with 3S and crawl ability.

I started out with 56/13 the first battery pack, then went to 15T, then 17T, and finally settled that the 16T would be best.

I don't know what "bashing" a crawler really means, but crawling puts a higher strain on a motor than wide open throttle does.

Just more like U4 stuff. High speed with some jumps then mixed in with some crawling, sorry for the lack of clarification.

I would consider this then; inrunner instead of outrunner.

Inrunner for speed, outrunner for torque.

If you're gonna warranty it, maybe Holmes will allow you to swap.

Please expand on that!

In crawling you don't feed the motor even remotely as much power as you do while going fast. You also don't want the motor to deliver much power.
So where's the strain?

Stalled/bound up motors react differently than a free spinning motor.

I can't, you're too sciencey for me.

My stuff always smoked or got hotter going slower than faster. Flooring it in binds or getting stuck instead of cruising always made more heat in my stuff.

This was more of an expirament than anything. The Outrunner was super cool with the torque plus speed combo. An inrunner will be next for sure.

I agree those situations will put heavy strain on the motor.
That's when we need to think of the limitations and not give the motor power for more than a second or so to prevent it from cooking.

The Revolver made quick work of the next upgrade, I didn't like the slop anyways.

Is the torquemaster 550 the same as the SX you posted a video of awhile back? And when will those be in stock?

All this this does is spin my RRP slipper! Great job on the power, it's too much for a fully tightened GEN3, but I like it!

^^ it there a part that fixes this.^^

Nope, I was lucky enough to score the standard size, but I wanted the larger one, even though it came with a hazardous to drivetrain components warning.

Haha I also have the standard. Going to see what 4s will do soon. Its probably the best brushless motor I've ran.

I'm with you on that, although so far this thing has already exhausted my current gear combinations, I'm at 54T/16 mod .8... Maybe I'll move up a ring/pinion size, before I start looking for some 4s packs.
